Troy Aikman is demonstrating that a winning mindset extends far beyond his days on the field. Back in July, the Cowboys legend turned heads with the post that had a photo from Next Health in Los Angeles. He was sitting with tubes in his arm while undergoing a cutting-edge procedure called Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE). And even a month into it, that work continues with ZERO regrets.
On August 29, Troy posted another update from Next|Health in Montecito. The 58-year-old revealed he spent a full day on treatments he called “health optimization.” He posted the pic from during the process and captioned his post: “Full day of health optimization at Next|Health Montecito before the NFL season kicks off next week.” The timing was no accident.
While fans may have expected a chill offseason, Aikman’s recent post showed he’s taking a different route when it comes to his prep. With another year of teaming up with Joe Buck at ESPN’s Monday Night Football on the horizon, he’s clearly prioritizing recovery, energy, and overall wellness to gear up for those long weeks in the booth.

The photo, featuring some medical gear and Aikman looking relaxed, really highlighted his dedication to staying sharp in a job that demands stamina from September all the way through February. At his age, Aikman has a physique that many would envy. But it is the result of his hard work. And this preseaon procedure is just a part of that work!

Troy explained it a month ago: “Spent the day at NextHealth, a clinic Dr. Shah founded about a decade ago to optimize health and longevity. One of the treatments — Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) — an ‘oil change’ for your blood, which is designed to reduce inflammation, slow the aging process, and support overall well-being.” Dr. Darshan Shah himself replied to his July post, writing, “Thanks for coming in Troy!”
For Aikman, preparation extends beyond the broadcast booth. Just as he once studied film to break down defenses, he now invests in keeping his body and mind strong. And here’s the kicker: whatever it is, it’s working.

Troy Aikman mirrors Tom Brady’s recovery methods
Despite having hung up his cleats decades ago, Troy Aikman is still in amazing shape, and he approaches fitness in a way that is very similar to Tom Brady‘s. Beyond just hitting the gym, the legendary Cowboys quarterback dives deep into recovery science, utilizing everything from hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to red light therapy, cold plunges, and saunas. During a chat on Michael Irvin’s Unfiltered Chat, he openly shared that, “I’m totally into this biohacking. I mean, I do sauna, red light, cold plunge, and hyperbaric.”
He further added, “I will not compromise on my sleep. I drink a gallon of water a day. It’s gotten borderline obsessive, and that requires several hours in your day… But it’s worth it.”

The parallels to Brady’s recovery strategies are hard to miss, and Aikman’s dedication highlights why his fitness can compete with that of much younger players. HBOT, which has gained popularity among NFL stars, aids in speeding up recovery and minimizing inflammation. For Troy Aikman, it’s not just a routine. It’s a mindset shaped by Irvin’s relentless work ethic, one that he carries with him long after his playing days. Together, these two Cowboys legends continue to exemplify discipline, showing that top-notch habits don’t fade away when the games end.
And maybe, this is something the modern-day Cowboys take notes from as they prepare to face the Eagles. Meanwhile, Troy will be there with his ESPN crew for the season grind, but he knows his work doesn’t end in the broadcast booth.
