Deion Sanders posted on Instagram in support of Shedeur’s current situation of not getting an opportunity to and said, “Life ain’t gonna be easy, but your decisions make it harder.” Shedeur has been coached and mentored by his father since his collegiate days, and the post symbolised words of wisdom. Shedeur had excellent college credentials when he joined the NFL. In 50 games, he completed more than 1,263 passes on 1,803 attempts (70.1%), recording 134 passing touchdowns and 27 interceptions. He completed 74.0% of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024 alone. However, his transfer to the professional level has been hampered by inconsistent play and coaching patience. This emphasizes a harsh reality of professional athletics. Your talent grants you entry. Making choices ensures survival.

With fans perceiving this consistent sidelined situation as a wasted potential of the Colorado star, they have started demanding a trade. Stefanski has claimed that he is focused on working on Shedeur Sanders’ development. But has once again not started the quarterback for week 5. Shedeur is rostered as QB 3 after Joe Flacco was marked as backup for Dillion Gabriel, the starter for the week 5 fixture.

Gabriel named starter, Flacco benched, Sanders on sidelines again

Dillon Gabriel has taken over the QB position for the Cleveland Browns for the week 5 fixture against the Minnesota Vikings. The Browns have not scored more than 17 points this season, and the Vikings possess one of the best defenses in the league. Against the Detroit Lions, the Browns managed to score only one TD. This raised questions about the veteran QB Joe Flacco’s performance. Flacco has started in 4 games this season, throwing two touchdowns and six interceptions.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on X, “Change in Cleveland: Browns are benching veteran QB Joe Flacco in favor of rookie QB Dillon Gabriel, per sources. The Browns were informed of the change this morning.” Gabriel has played in the final losing moments of two games this season against the Baltimore Ravens and the Lions. In Week 2, he found running back Dylan Sampson in the end zone for both of their first-ever scores, completing three of three passing attempts for 19 yards and one touchdown. Then, in Week 4 against the Lions, Gabriel failed to complete his only passing attempt.

“We have to play better, and we have to coach better. This is not about one person. My focus is on making sure the offense plays better,” Stefanski said, according to the Athletic. Gabriel, a left-handed passer and an April third-round pick, will be the 41st starting quarterback the Browns have had since their 1999 NFL comeback.

Flacco is ranked 31st in the NFL in terms of expected points added per play (-0.31) and last in terms of quarterback rating (60.3), completion percentage (58.1%), and yards per attempt (5.1). By taking a bet on Gabriel, Sheduer also gets one step closer to his time.

As of the first stretch of games, the Browns are 1-3. They will play the Vikings as the home team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
