Deion Sanders is no stranger to the pressure of the NFL. But recently, his words have cut deeper than the usual motivational snippets he shares with the world. Coach Prime went to his Instagram handle and delivered a strong message on faith: “Power, Money & S** ain’t the answer to your Problems or the cure to your Pain. JESUS IS! #CoachPrime” For Deion, faith matters more than the usual trappings of success. And it was a sentiment that seemed tied to his son, Shilo Sanders, in his ongoing battle to secure an NFL job. But this wasn’t the only message Coach Prime had.

The caption under his post carried another message on faith that felt even more personal. “You can try anything u desire to fix what’s broken and it ain’t gonna work consistently but GOD will. #CoachPrime” Those words frame Shilo’s stalls and setbacks realistically. Raw talent alone doesn’t translate to NFL success. As Coach Prime sees it, discipline, timing, and temperament are the other forces that shape destiny in pro football.
Shilo’s college career was solid, finishing at Colorado with 99 solo tackles and a memorable 80-yard pick-6. Going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him a shot. But a preseason punch thrown at a player in frustration ended that stint quickly. Ejected from the game against the Bills, fined $4,669, and cut before the regular season, Shilo faced the consequences sharply. As Bucs HC Todd Bowles put it, “You can’t throw punches in this league – that’s inexcusable. … They’re going to get you every time. You’ve got to grow from that.” That single moment of heated emotion sealed Shilo’s fate in Tampa Bay. But what’s next?

Since the Buccaneers cut ties, Shilo’s NFL options have narrowed. While Deion Sanders’ Instagram revealed a father’s faith, Shilo faces a brutal grind where forgiveness is scarce. As Shilo looked for a new opportunity in the league, many analysts projected he could land with a franchise that desperately needs a safety. Since the regular season began, injuries have piled up, making Shilo’s case stronger. But the league’s turnover leaves no room for errors, especially for undrafted stars. And that’s the reality Shilo is facing now as he waits to get claimed by a team on waivers.

Shilo Sanders’ off-field grind
After being cut from the Bucs, Shilo Sanders appeared on his YouTube channel and delivered a heartfelt message of hope. He also suggested that if things don’t work out, he might step away from football and pursue other interests. “I’ll be talking to my agent and we’re waiting on the next opportunity. If that’s in the NFL, cool, but God has blessed me with a lot of talent to do things other than football.” But so far, that next opportunity hasn’t come Shilo’s way.

The Chargers placed LB Khalil Mack on IR following an elbow injury. Instead of looking for another linebacker to take his place, HC Jim Harbaugh went for a safety. Instead of going for Shilo, they signed Tony Jefferson to their active roster. A similar scenario unfolded in Jacksonville as well. The Jaguars decided to cut ties with Darnell Savage, and that opened up a roster spot. But following the Chargers’ example, Jacksonville went on to sign Kahlef Hailassie to fill the gap. As more teams shore up their defenses with fresh faces, Shilo’s NFL market continues to plunge. With no takers, could Shilo be forced to explore his other talents outside the NFL?
Deion Sanders had recently noted that an acting career might just be what Shilo ends up pursuing. As Coach Prime put it, “I was gonna go down that avenue once upon a time. I think that’s the avenue that–or streaming like iShowsSpeed–that Shilo’s going to go down. Cause he has that gift, man. It’s a very attractive personality. It’s just fun. He’s a fun kid, man, and I’m proud of him right now.” So if the season progresses further with Shilo still waiting for a shot in free agency, we might just see him shift away from the stadium lights. The silver lining, though? We’ll still be able to see him in action from our living rooms.

Should Shilo Sanders pivot to acting, or keep fighting for his NFL career?
