Payton said, “It’s hard to create [explosive plays] if you don’t have it.” Reflecting on Stroud’s journey, Payton noted, “His career at Ohio State, he’s won, was successful.”

He commended the Houston staff, particularly mentioning “Deo and those guys,” for their role in harnessing Stroud’s potential. Payton acknowledged the synergy between player and scheme, “When you get both of them that fit, you get the player and then you get the scheme…you kind of get what they have right now.”

He described Stroud as a “confident, talented player who’s seeing the field well,” suggesting a maturity beyond his years. Even though the quarterback seems to have perfect stats, Shannon Sharpe is skeptical of him winning MVP.

These feats have sparked significant praise, however, Sharpe has a different perspective. In a podcast on ‘Nightcap’, Sharpe suggested that he’s not sure if Stroud will win MVP this season. He said, “I don’t know if he’s gonna have enough wins to really kind of Garner because the stats are going to say yes I mean he’s second in the league in passing yards.”
