Considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Dan Marino has remained a pivotal figure for the Dolphins despite retiring in 1999. After a 17-year-long playing career, Marino continues to hold a vital role within the franchise as the team’s special advisor to the vice chairman, President, and CEO.
With this legend in the stands, Miami will look to build on its blowout 30-13 win over the Bills. Ahead of this game, the Dolphins were on a disappointing seven-game losing streak before QB Tua Tagovailoa threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and De’Von Achane added a pair of rushing scores to put an end to their losing streak.

Coming back to Marino, the Hall of Fame quarterback continues to build his legacy, which is felt throughout the league, even today. With Week 11 approaching, there’s a star rapidly closing in on one of his most impressive early-career records, setting up yet another moment in which the Miami Dolphins legend takes center stage.

Who is catching up to a historic Dan Marino early-career record?
Despite failing to win a Super Bowl, Dan Marino reigns supreme as one of the greatest shot callers in NFL history. He was given the title thanks to his elite numbers and the 25 NFL regular-season records he held by the time he retired from the league. Among these benchmarks was his record of leading the league with 23,856 passing yards across the first six seasons.
Though the record now belongs to fellow Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (24,885 yards), Marino remains third on the list. But only for now, as the Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert is eyeing the Dolphins great. Herbert, with 23,703 passing yards, is just 154 yards away from overtaking Marino when he takes the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
As the Chargers QB averages 261 passing yards per game, it would take a massive blunder for him to fall short. Subsequently, Herbert could emerge as the new holder of this record as he trails Manning by 1,182 yards.

Whether Herbert beats the record this week or not, the chase only highlights Marino’s greatness. Even as the game moves to new frontiers like Madrid and new stars rewrite the record books, Dan the Man’s legacy looms large.
