Pat’s story begins in Plum, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where his father’s blue-collar grit and his mother’s counseling background shaped his relentless drive. During the October 8 episode of The Pat McAfee Show, A.J. Hawk and ESPN analyst Steve Coughlin, better known as “Stanford Steve,” joined former NFL icon McAfee to discuss the Oregon vs. Indiana game on College GameDay. But rather than discussing the game, things got ridiculous when Steve revealed a strange phobia.

“Steve’s fear of ducks is disgusting,” McAfee laughed, as Hawk and the crew burst out. McAfee reminded everyone that College GameDay has had live animals on the show before—Oregon’s mascot included. That itself was enough to get Steve nervous.

“I’m sitting down, and they put it right on the desk next to me,” Steve said. “The thing’s neck is longer than my arm. I don’t know what it’s going to do, man.”

Hawk joked, “Just kick him in the head, Steve,” while McAfee added, “He freaks out. That thing ruins his entire stare at me.”

Now, with Oregon possibly bringing a live duck to GameDay, fans are eager to see if “Stanford Steve” can face his feathered fear or take flight himself.
