NFL shared former 49ers HC Steve Mariucci’s heartfelt video of John Madden‘s impact on Thanksgiving games. This tradition was started under Madden’s broadcasting career after bidding adieu to coaching teams at the helm. Speaking to the fans on social media, Mariucci showed love to his friend, “There’s no tradition like NFL football on Thanksgiving Day. And that tradition would be nothing without the legendary John Madden.”

John Madden linked the tradition with football and how it brought the fans and players together. In Madden’s words, the great man says- “The tradition of Thanksgiving and football. Some things just go together greatly.” From the turducken to the turkey-leg award, Madden made each NFL Thanksgiving game more special than each previous one.

Mariucci narrates how the culture began under Madden when the commentator par extraordinaire began calling the games back in 1981. The NFL legend covered nearly 21 Thanksgiving matchups throughout his career. This year around, even the NFL jerseys and the coin would carry the John Madden emotion.
