Somebody needs to come in and save the New York Jets from disasters. At least, that’s the general sentiment among the restless crowds after watching their team fall 0-6 so far this season. But who’s it going to be? Many people on social media have asked former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner to take the helm.

One fan suggested Warner as the head coach, quarterback Marcus Mariota from free agency, and a first-rounder of Warner’s choice to help the struggling Jets. Warner responded with a joke, drawing up the possibility of signing himself as a surprise player pick, but then proceeded to drop the reality check: no coaching role for him.
As Warner put it on X, “Can I take a Warner??? Haha – not a high pick but I’ll let him surprise ppl as Mr. Irrelevant did or maybe like his dad!! All kidding here, no coaching in my future!!”

The Jets’ struggles have been glaring. Warner, while calling the Jets vs. Denver Broncos London game, expressed disbelief over their baffling play-calling. He’d tweeted: “Somebody please explain that last Jets drive??? Not really sure what I just watched!” In that Week 6 game, Jets quarterback Justin Fields got sacked nine times, failed to spark any momentum, and ended the game with negative passing yardage. Naturally, the frustrations grew further.

But amidst the mounting criticism, Warner had supported the quarterback and told the crowds to “STOP” their digs at the team. Still, the Jets’ coaching and game-planning leave plenty to be desired. While Warner steps back, the Jets’ head coach, Aaron Glenn, needs to step up and try to save a sinking ship. The Jets’ future now hinges on Glenn accepting Justin Fields’ flaws and leading a team still searching for answers.

Aaron Glenn’s defense, and Justin Fields’ path forward
Even with the Jets struggling, the HC has maintained a steady pillar of support for his QB. Glenn was visibly exasperated when asked if he would consider benching Fields for another quarterback. The biggest criticism around Fields is holding on to the ball too long (9 sacks in a single game stand as proof), but Glenn compares it with the league’s shining QBs like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, who do the same without as much scrutiny.
“I think everybody tends to see who those guys are, and understand that, and for some reason they don’t understand Justin. … It’s who he is.”

But something has to change, and for Fields, it’s his own strategies. He admits to being too focused on ball security and not taking enough risks. Now, that script might finally change heading into Week 7. As Fields noted:
“I feel like I’ve been a little bit too conservative in a sense. Probably just [need to] be a little bit more aggressive. I’ve always just been big on ball security and not putting the ball in jeopardy, but it comes to a point where you just have to find that healthy balance between trying to maybe fit it in smaller windows and just letting it rip.”
The Jets now gear up to host the Carolina Panthers at MetLife for Week 7. Will we see Justin Fields take more risks and finally shut down the criticism around his plays? Or will the losing streak continue, with more pressure mounting on Aaron Glenn? For now, we can only wait and find out what the MetLife turf has in store.
