“We believe with all our hearts that this is an answer to prayer and a glimpse of God’s healing power.” This is what Jim Kelly penned on his IG post when his grandson, Beau Hunter Bean, came off oxygen on August 5. Well, the Bills icon, who already endured the pain with the loss of his son, Hunter, knows the ‘power of prayers’ and leaning on the faith in God.

Jim Kelly, who once led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls by leading the ground-breaking “K-Gun” offense with 35,467 yards and 237 touchdowns over 160 games, is more experienced than most at facing overwhelming odds. Clearly, under blitzes, he made rapid reads, took vicious hits, and recovered from the pandemonium of the no-huddle. However, in the silent fortitude, he has developed with unspeakable hardship, as his latest update on the ongoing battle with his newborn grandson’s health evidenced this.

The family has been going through a difficult time for more than a month. The new addition to their family had to endure surgery and be on a ventilator, medication, and more oxygen. However, Little Bean is no longer on oxygen, but he hasn’t been able to wean himself off the medication yet. And, Jim Kelly confirmed in his recent update on IG that “the heart medication he’s been on was stopped.” But, they still need prayers for more healing.

Along with sharing an emotional picture of his grandson with his parents, he shared a deep note while sharing the “Today’s UPDATE” on August 12. “At 5:30 am yesterday, the heart medication he’s been on was stopped.  So now, we wait to see how his heart responds.  So far it has been a lot of ups and downs, which is hard. But, he’s still off the medication and oxygen. THANK GOD!” he mentioned.

Amidst the adversity and fear, he is now watching his newborn grandson Little Bean, who was born with “unexpected medical complications” on July 9face a fight of his own in the NICU. He honestly feels like they’ve “gone beyond rock bottom”. But he also admitted before that without Jesus, they even “couldn’t walk through this.”The pain is too deep, the road too hard. But He is carrying us. It’s not our strength, it’s His,” he declared in an IG post earlier.

And now, his faith seems in the red zone. “WHILE WE WAIT: We thought we knew what that meant before, but this is different.  It’s the kind that breaks you,” he added in his latest post. He went on to explain the heartbreak- “The kind where hours feel like days, and prayers seem empty.” He continued saying, “The kind that forces you to face every fear, every doubt, every ‘what if.”

Even he could not hide his real pain this time. “We have questioned. We have cried out, “Lord, where are You?”,” he further wrote. But still, he believes in praying.

He has become the synonym of struggles that went well beyond the field. 1st, the devastating loss of his 8-year-old son; second, his own valiant battles with cancer. He left his legacy just behind the Hall of Fame bust (2002, first ballot) and the Pro Bowl nods (5).

Even through his annual Golf tournament, which supports the Kelly for Kids Foundation, he is committed to benefiting many young children. Yeah, amid dealing with the ongoing battle of his newborn grandson, Beau Hunter Bean’s medical issues. But will these prayers and his good deeds turn out into a miracle for his grandson, as he is battling for life? Kelly continues to ask for prayers for the first child of his daughter Erin and her husband, Parker Bean.

Jim Kelly’s family needs prayers

While going through a lot of ups and downs, he even took a moment to express his thanks to those prayers that have helped them to keep holding on. “Through your prayers, the ones you’ve whispered in the middle of the night, the ones you’ve prayed without even knowing our full story…our faith has been carried,” he mentioned. Yet the next pivotal moment is not far off. In his latest post, Kelly included a grim reminder. “Please keep praying for our brave, strong grandson, Beau Hunter Bean. (red heart emoji) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!”

Additionally, he never holds back from expressing his gratitude to those who continue to pray for “Little Bean,” “Thank you for continuing to pray with us, believe with us, and hope with us. We feel it. And on August 5th, we witnessed it! Your prayers are making a difference!!!”

Although Kelly’s family has not disclosed any medical details, he outlined the particular things they are praying for. That the baby’s body will strengthen over time. Additional interventions can be avoided. Medicine won’t be required for very long. And that healing will occur gradually, “A healing miracle!” as he puts it.

And even in our weakness, Jesus is our strength. Even when we don’t see Him move, He is still making a way. Even when we don’t understand, He is still working it all together for good,” he mentioned in his post. He also showcased his belief that their waiting will not be wasted.  “That God is doing things we cannot yet see. That He is healing and providing a way.”
