“We’re still praying for a miracle for our grandson.” This is what former Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly mentioned in the latest update of his newborn grandson. Unfortunately, the Kelly family’s happy moment turned sour immediately after they welcomed their new addition to their family. On July 14, Kelly first broke the news on Instagram. The newborn, lovingly referred to as “Little Bean,” has been under medical supervision since his birth.
After losing his 8-year-old son Hunter, who battled cancer, Kelly is now watching his grandson fighting for his life. He finds it difficult to put up with the suffering constantly. However, one aspect of Kelly’s family has not changed: their resilience, dedication, and faith. That same fighting spirit appears to have been passed down to his grandson. And, there’s still the flicker of hope with it.
Although the family has not disclosed any medical details, Kelly explained exactly what they are hoping for: that the baby’s body will strengthen over time, that additional interventions can be avoided, that medication won’t be required for very long, and that healing will occur gradually— “So please — keep praying. We are still believing for a miracle that defies all understanding,” Jim Kelly and his wife Jill Kelly wrote recently in their latest joint IG post. Additionally, the grandparents also took to expressing their praise for their little Bean. As the boy turned 20 days old today, they made 6-fold prayer requests to their fans.

“That tomorrow’s attempt to come off medication would be the one — in God’s perfect timing,” he continues, writing, “That his heart, lungs, organs, and every cell in his little body would be healed,” Not just this, in his 3rd point, he described that “That his body would come off everything — with zero side effects.”
Additionally, Kelly also showcased his belief in doctors and medical staff. “For wisdom for doctors, nurses, Erin, and Parker,” he mentioned. He just uttered prayers for his grandson’s “supernatural peace, strength, and rest.” He continued that “we would fix our eyes on Jesus — not the ups and downs,” they mentioned, reflecting their faith in God and prayers. Besides this, Jim Kelly and his wife also expressed their most ‘vital choice,’ this time.
They explained that there are a lot of decisions to be made and unknowns to face, but “our most vital choice remains: to trust God. Even in the anger. Even in the heartache. We still choose Him.” Not only this, ex-Bills player never fails to express his gratitude to those who have been constantly standing with them and have sent prayers for their grandson.
Like others, the former four-time Pro Bowler never imagined that he would suffer such heartbreak again. Nevertheless, he believes in prayers. “Your prayers. Your encouragement. They’ve lifted us on days when we couldn’t lift ourselves,” he mentioned in his post.
Unfortunately, the newborn was put on a ventilator. That too, immediately after being born with “unexpected medical complications.” When the physicians removed him from the ventilator, oxygen support was required again. For the entire Bills Legend family, this is truly a painful moment. “We had hoped for better days — but the last few have been some of the hardest,” they mentioned earlier.
This is really a painful situation for the entire Kelly family. But in these 20 days, they just learned to love, trust, and hope like never before. Before becoming the grandparents of their daughter Erin and her husband, Parker Bean’s first child, they were excited to embrace the “one of life’s greatest gifts” of being the grandparents. But, now, they are in “awe of the gift of a single breath… and the One who gives it.” As this adverse situation is not in their control, they’re “desperate for the God who is.” And they have gone beyond “rock bottom.”

Jim Kelly’s family hit rock bottom
The unforeseen difficulties that followed Little Bean’s birth really sent the Kellys into a dark place that brought up memories of previous family valleys. And this particularly included the death of their son from Krabbe’s illness in 2005. But, they still hold on to their faith. “And honestly, it feels like we’ve gone beyond rock bottom,” he acknowledged this in his most recent Instagram post, before quoting an instance of scripture: “Jesus is still the Rock at the bottom.”
Soon after his post surfaced on the internet, the Bills community came forward to show their support for his family. Even Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s sister Nicala Madden, who is also a mom of 2 kids, sent the heartwarming prayer to Erin’s son. “Praise Jesus 🙏 continuing to pray for sweet baby Bean and your beautiful family.” She wrote, adding a red heart emoji.

In a heartfelt, tearful Instagram appeal that reverberated like a silence descending on Highmark Stadium, Kelly revealed his family’s pain and suffering: “This road has brought us to our knees.” He reflected on the moments where “tears wouldn’t stop.” He also stated that there were times when they could only scream in pain, rage, and agony. That is heartbreaking for any parent.
Jim pleaded, “Please also lift up Erin and Parker. They’re carrying so much as parents.” He asked for “strength, peace, and rest in the waiting,” as he continues to maintain his calm amidst uncertainty.
