10 weeks of the 2025 season are over. And one team needs a head coach. The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll after losing 4 games in a row. As expected, everyone is looking forward to their next coach. One name is grabbing all the attention. Super Bowl winner Jon Gruden!

“I would love to see Jon Gruden in New York…He’s a great motivator, he holds you to a high standard, and he gives you a ton of freedom,” former NFL guard Richie Incognito said on the November 10 episode of The Arena.
Incognito played previously under Gruden at the Las Vegas Raiders from 2019 to 2021. The ex-NFLer even praised the coach for not having any ego. Incognito explained how he schemes things up, doesn’t remain stuck on his plan, and has proven success with players like WR Hunter Renfrow and QB Derek Carr.

An additional plus point is that Gruden likes their rookie starter, Jaxson Dart. After Dart won his first game as the Giants’ starting quarterback, the coach showed his support online by posting on X.
He shared a video of Dart celebrating with coach Brian Daboll and wrote, “So happy for this young man! Way to go, Jaxson!!”

Also, with the firing, things have become too serious for the locker room. They need someone who can handle the responsibility but still keep the players in a good frame of mind. Moreover, Jon Gruden has also been trying to make a comeback in the league. There would be no better opportunity than to return as a head coach.
However, the question remains: Has the NFL lifted the unofficial ban on the coach?

Jon Gruden has been through enough
It’s one thing to have a losing streak. But it’s another if many point fingers at your character. Gruden has seen it firsthand. It’s the email controversy. Out of coaching for almost four years, the former Raiders head coach has been fighting back after his leaked 2011–2018 emails, containing racist, misogynistic, s–ist, and anti-gay language, forced him to resign in 2021.
“I believe that Jon has paid his dues and paid his price, and it’s time for him to have another job. He loves Jaxson Dart. I think he would be a great fit here,” Skip Bayless said.

Gruden has also been winning cases. On October 2, 2025, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled 7-0 to reject the NFL’s petition to rehear its case against Gruden. Asper reports, his lawsuit might move forward in a public court instead of the NFL’s private arbitration process. The NFL can still appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but for now, Gruden has more breathing room.
From the coaching front, he might be a good option. But apart from him, Bayless has also named another coach besides Gruden, who could become the Giants’ HC. Dart’s Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin, can also lead them in the 2025 season. But the final decision lies with co-owner John Mara.
