The former Giants defensive lineman gave the TSU Tigers football program the newest protective gear by donating premium helmets. The helmets in question were models of the Riddell SpeedFlex. By doing that, he demonstrates the importance of equipment upgrades in the larger football ecology at HBCUs
“Texas Southern is where it all started for me. That’s where I learned discipline, teamwork, and how to carry myself on and off the field. So anytime I have the chance to give back, especially in a way that helps protect and empower the next generation, I’m all in,” He told Sports Illustrated.

Through the donation, the Tigers’ football program will be provided with equipment that aligns with the strictest safety regulations. Just in time for the homecoming season, the effort goes beyond TSU alone; it signals a broader push to elevate resources available to HBCU football programs and to narrow the equipment gap with larger-budget schools. But this is no ordinary equipment.
At the league level, the NFL recorded a 17% decrease in concussions during the 2024 season compared to 2023, attributing this to improved helmet technology, increased equipment usage, and more stringent safety regulations.

“If I can help the next generation of players chase their dreams a little safer, a little more confidently, that’s what it’s all about,” he added. By making advanced helmets available at his former institution, he demonstrates how alumni support can lead to meaningfully safer conditions on the field.
Besides his charitable work, this NFL veteran is also known for openly commending talent.

Michael Strahan backs Baker Mayfield

“The thing about Tampa is, they just keep winning. And then you look at Baker Mayfield. This guy, in my opinion, is the MVP. He is the most valuable player in this league and to his team. At points, you had Chris Godwin out, you had Mike Evans out, and Emeka Egbuka has been out. Those are three of his top guys, and they still keep winning. A lot of credit to Baker Mayfield,” Strahan told Fox News.
This opinion is supported by Mayfield’s 2025 figures. This season, he has passed for 1,539 yards and 12 touchdowns with only one interception. He has a passing rating of about 108.5 and averages 7.9 yards per pass attempt. These numbers highlight his effectiveness and endurance in the absence of his best weapons.
In summary, Strahan’s backing demonstrates his capacity to recognize up-and-coming talent and understand the influence that goes beyond popularity. Strahan emphasizes how a player’s worth manifests under challenging circumstances by promoting Mayfield at a crucial juncture, and he is living up to that standard.
