“I didn’t think I’d make it to my 20th birthday.” This is what Isabella Strahan shared with the audience in the ABC documentary – Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Fight to Beat Cancer. The daughter of Good Morning America host Michael Strahan and his ex-wife Jean Muggli faced a terrifying diagnosis in October 2023. But after battling it for nine months, Isabella is finally cancer-free. Now, she is ready to reclaim her life with her family by her side.

As Isabella gets back to her normal life, her mom, Jean, shared an emotional Instagram tribute celebrating this milestone. She posted a nostalgic throwback picture of her daughters – Isabella and Sophia, with their beloved Saint Bernard dogs. And captioned it, “Oh, how I missed these days.” She also posted a beach photo of the twins with Goodness of God playing in the background – All my life you have been so, so good.

Throughout this challenging period, Isabella’s family stood like a rock beside her. Michael Strahan, the former NFL star, Good Morning America host and her dad, shared, “Seeing her come out of surgery and all the things she had to learn how to do again… You just pray that everything gets back to normal.” Sophia too was affected deeply by her sister’s diagnosis: “The last few months have been so much harder than we could have ever imagined, but it’s made me realize just how strong you are.”

But Isabella took the journey as positively as she could – as she said in an interview for Hello Magazine in March 2025, “Now I don’t say no to anything. I don’t think, ‘I’ll do it next week.’ You don’t know what next week will look like.”

After undergoing treatments at Duke University’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, she now makes it a point to enjoy every moment, determined to live life to the fullest. Now, Isabella has returned to her active lifestyle as well. A few days ago, she went on a “sister date” with Sophia, hitting the gym together. Both the sisters did kettlebell deadlifts and strength training – sibling goals, right? Isabella rocked a black gym wear, while Sophia wore a grey outfit. Fans noticed how her curls, lost during the treatment, have started to grow back beautifully – symbolising her body’s resilience.

But now, Isabella’s life’s new chapter has started. She has resumed her studies at the University of Southern California. Moreover, when she was going through her treatment, she actively raised awareness about her cancer recovery – inspiring others facing the same battle.

How Isabella Strahan fought and won

Isabella and her family’s life turned upside down when they were hit by a cancer diagnosis – medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumour rarely seen in adults. She went through three brain surgeries and months of painful chemotherapy and radiation. The journey wasn’t easy at all. “I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t do anything on my own,” she said in the ABC documentary about her journey after the surgery.

Her mother shared how she felt about the news, “That was just the worst moment any parent can expect. Like you don’t expect it. It was just, my kids had never been sick.” Her twin sister, Sophia Strahan, stood by her side like a true sibling but was equally scared for her sister. “It was terrifying to see her like that,” Sophia admitted. “But Isabella is the strongest person I know.” And no one deny that.

Isabella made it a point to make this journey count. She started a YouTube vlog to document her experience and even hosts informational Zoom talks to help others navigate a similar path. Her story was also featured in ABC’s special Life Interrupted, which aired on February 5, 2025, and is available on Disney+ and Hulu. “I want people to know that life doesn’t stop. You can get through this, and you will be stronger because of it,” she said in her documentary.
