Moreover, the single contract earnings are worth more than the NFL’s GOAT Tom Brady‘s entire career earnings. This comes off as a surprise not only to the fans but also to the players in question.

As The Athletic pointed out in a recent post, Brady over his long illustrious career accumulated $332 million while playing 23 seasons at the gridiron. Despite being football’s biggest player over such a long time, he was never ranked among the top-earning football players.

The 29-year-old Japanese baseball sensation joined the LA Dodgers after separation from Los Angeles Angels team. His recent contract deal might take some time to sink in! The record contract deal of $700 million is a prime example of financial wisdom. He’s now worth way more than the former Patriots QB’s entire career earnings.

Unlike most of his counterparts, Ohtani is both a pitcher and a batter. He possesses tremendous amounts of talent making him an asset for any team. The baseball legend won an American League MVP award twice – in 2021 and for the second time only last month while battling an injury. His performance truly justifies the big contract he’s getting. However, as fans have been pointing out Brady’s earnings are so low only because he regularly took pay cuts.

Decoding Brady’s pay cuts during his career

Brady has taken some insane pay cuts throughout his career. Despite career earnings of nearly $300 million, he never maximized his on-field earnings. While many reasons have been theorized to be behind this move, the exact reason remains a mystery.

The most common theory is that he does this to allow more flexibility for the team to recruit top talents.  When one player takes more salary than others it leaves little room for funds and hence recruiting more players. Brady understood this and always put the team above his personal goals. “Actually, it’s a salary cap, and you can only spend so much, and the more one guy gets it’s less for the others,” Brady explained the same.
