Love for the sport of football, hard work to achieve greatness, and gratitude towards everyone. Only these three virtuous traits can easily describe who Larry Fitzgerald is. His grind to be one of the greatest wide receivers in football history generates a huge inspiration for generations. As y’all know, he played 17 seasons for a single franchise, received as many accolades as equal to football; looks like his life is full, right? Fitzgerald’s latest social media post denotes something related to that.  

Larry Fitzgerald shared a heartfelt post on X on the occasion of Mother’s Day. He remembered that he had made one last promise to his mom, Carol Fitzgerald, and Larry fulfilled it. The legendary wide receiver posted pictures of himself receiving an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Pittsburgh, where he played college football before coming into the NFL. 

While sharing this beautiful moment, Fitzgerald wrote, “Thank you, University of Pittsburgh, for this incredible honor. Before she passed, my mom asked me to finish my education — and I kept that promise.” He also added, “This past weekend, standing on stage receiving a Doctorate of Letters felt like another way to honor her belief in me. Grateful — for her, for my family, and for those who believed before I did. 🎓❤️.” After sharing the update and love for mom on X, he also shared a few messages to his late mom on Instagram. 

Larry Fitzgerald shared three pictures of himself receiving the honorary Doctorate of Letters on Instagram stories, but they were all dedicated to his mom, Carol Fitzgerald. “Full Circle Moment” and “For her. For everyone who believes before we do.” These were the two special messages Larry sent to heaven where his mom lives. Carol Fitzgerald, been through everything for Larry, whether it was his school or his college football career. But later in life, doctors diagnosed Carol with cancer, which killed her 22 years ago.

Larry’s mom took her last breath in 2003. This was the year when Larry played his last year in college football, and the Arizona Cardinals drafted him in 2004 as the third overall pick. But his mom wasn’t there to watch even a single game as the monstrous cancer and brain hemorrhage took Carol away from Larry. She had been battlinh breast cancer. Later in his life, the football maestro founded the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation to honor Carol Fitzgerald in 2005. 

But Larry still has that regret with him that he was not there to support and take care of Carol while she was living with breast cancer. In 2020, Larry wrote an article for his late mom, where he admitted, “I regret I wasn’t more supportive during the most critical season of her life and her death.” He was busy building his career the college sports. But Carol Fitzgeral must be so proud to see her son making a name in the football world. 

Lastly, while talking about Mom four years ago, Larry shared the message to all cancer patients. “If your life is one of those that has been touched by cancer, take heart and take up the fight. Battles are won every single day, and we are closer than ever to a cure.” There is no doubt Carol Fitzgerald’s soul must be at peace as her Cardinals star son is still making a name for himself and spreading awareness about cancer.
