Taking to his Instagram, Johnson announced the news with a heartfelt note, reminiscing his experience when he was in the league. “8 Years 4 teams with 1 goal in mind, create a better life for my family. I never dreamed of being the all-time leading rusher of my dream school or being somewhere on the list of all-time players to come out of South FL. I just wanted an opportunity to play a game to provide a better life for my family and I was able to do just that,” He wrote emotionally.

In his rеtirеmеnt statеmеnt released on Sunday, Johnson еxprеssеd immense gratitudе to thosе who supported him throughout his journey. “Thanks to all my vеts who wеrе ablе to show mе thе ropеs frее of chargе and all my littlе bros who trustеd mе to bе that vеtеran that you can dеpеnd on, that rеally mеant a lot to mе. To all my coachеs that I lovе, y’all know who y’all arе. THANK YOU,” hе wrotе.

His retirement makes us revisit his football legacy for one last time. Johnson was a standout player in his 2012-2014 college football career at the University of Miami.

Johnson’s legacy

During his freshman season, he amassed 947 rushing yards on 139 carries and scored ten touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 221 yards and one touchdown. His college career boasts an impressive average of 6.7 yards per carry over three seasons with the Hurricanes. In 2014 Johnson tallied 1,652 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Transitioning to the NFL through the 2015 draft, Johnson initially did not emerge as a primary running back but excelled in the passing game. He consistently recorded 44 or more receptions each season from his rookie year until 2019, achieving a career-high of 74 catches in 2017.

Throughout his NFL tenure, Johnson played for the Cleveland Browns for four seasons before having brief stints with the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills. Concluding his career, Johnson leaves behind a legacy of 2,265 rushing yards, 2,870 receiving yards, and 23 total touchdowns. In his eight years of NFL career, he has played for some of the biggest NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins.
