It’s a sad day for America as one of the most popular faces in American comedy shows breathed his last. Matthew Perry will be remembered as one of the greatest actors who filled us with laughter and amazing memories with his role in Friends. Retired Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin shares his grief in a heartbreaking Twitter post for fans to mourn over the legend. 

The Screen Actors Guild Award winner appeared in the popular sitcom Friends in 1994 and entertained the public for a decade as Chandler Bing. His natural talent for acting shines in other movies like The Whole Nine Yards and 17 Again. Truly, the news of his passing came as an unbelievable shock, and many people are still in denial as the world lays the legend to rest.

In what is a heartbreaking blow to both the sports and entertainment worlds, news surfaced that iconic Friends actor Matthew Perry was reportedly found dead at his residence. Robert Griffin took to Twitter to show his sadness over the demise of the legend. He captioned the post, “Matthew Perry was more than Chandler Bing. He was what made Friends go. Sad to hear of his passing, but thankful for the memories he gave us. Rest in Peace.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, reports confirmed that the former NBC Sitcom Friends actor was found dead in a jacuzzi in his Los Angeles home. So far, no reports of unusual incidents have been reported. The former Baltimore Ravens star shared a reel that compiles some of the best of the deceased actor, including the episode where Chandler comes to free Joey in a unit to find out they’ve been robbed.

Griffin’s wife, Grete Griffin, also replied to the tweet, saying, “The one that broke our hearts.” It is indeed a sad time for the fans of the American comedy show where Matthew Perry has played quite an impactful role. In another post, Robert Griffin posted a video of himself lamenting the death of the Friends actor and captioned, “Rest in Peace Matthew Perry.”

Griffin said, “He played the iconic Chandler Bing on the show Friends.” The former NFL player goes on to say that his role is irreplaceable and that “he truly was what made the show Friends really go.” He goes on to say that while he’s saddened by the news of his passing, he’s thankful for the memories that the American-Canadian legend left behind.

Aside from his career in front of the camera, Matthew Perry has a close connection with the sports world, and this is why his death hit the sports world as badly as the film industry. According to Paramount, Perry was an ardent supporter of various sports teams, including the NHL Ottawa Senators, the NFL New England Patriots, and the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers, among others.

Matthew Perry was one of the best Canadian junior players during his youth. In 2002, he stated in The New York Times, “I need to succeed at whatever I was doing so I could feel better about myself. I had this incredible drive on the tennis court, and that translated into acting.
