“I think I could be the absolute best at it if given the opportunity.” That 2024 manifestation from Drew Brees is finally becoming a reality.

After some rough outings early in his broadcasting journey, whether it was Notre Dame games or NFL calls alongside Mike Tirico, Brees had to wait longer than expected to get another shot at the mic. But this time? He’s dodged the usual stumbling blocks and landed a prime opportunity.

The Saints legend is officially back in the booth…this time for a massive Christmas Day matchup. Drew Brees is set to call the Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings showdown as part of Netflix’s 2025 holiday doubleheader. Fox signed him after swiftly moving on from Mark Sanchez, who has been facing felony charges after a stabbing incident in Indianapolis. Brees has been paired with NBC Sports’ Noah Eagle. Brees has also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“I appreciate the opportunity FOX has given me in the booth and with their team,” read Brees’ statement shortly after his hiring by FOX. “I hope my passion for this game is reflected in the knowledge and insights I provide to the fans each Sunday.”

These NFL streams on Netflix or YouTube can also turn out to be a well-compensated event.

Color commentators can reportedly make around $100,000 or more for a single game. Studio analysts, on the other hand, can pull in $50,000-plus. But Brees’ Christmas Day call with Netflix is more than just a paycheck.

After tough recent gigs as a broadcaster, it is a great opportunity for him to draw a huge audience. The 2024 broadcast set streaming records with 65 million U.S. viewers and over 30 million worldwide. For fans, it’s exciting because Brees now has the perfect platform to prove that his love for football and his game expertise can make him a standout in the booth.

Fans are thrilled to witness a 13-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champ deliver the best with the opportunity provided to him, something that others did not get.

FOX did not allow Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan for Netflix’s Christmas Day coverage

While Drew Brees landed the opportunity to call Netflix’s NFL Christmas Sunday games, Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan, who have long been part of FOX, won’t be available for the games. Some fans might assume Bradshaw’s recent absences from FOX NFL Sunday due to illness had something to do with it. But that’s not the case here.

The real reason Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan won’t be calling Netflix’s NFL Christmas games comes down to FOX’s strict exclusivity rules. Fans might remember that this isn’t the first time that Fox has denied providing its talent assistance for broadcasting.

In 2024, Greg Olsen was allowed to work as a color commentator, while the star duo of Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt was kept from crossing over.

Though fan speculations and media coverage might highlight the ban as controversial, neither Strahan nor Bradshaw has made any public comments regarding the ban. While both the NFL legends remain focused on their general broadcasting careers, it is Brees who is under the microscope, especially after his previous struggles in the booth.
