Did Drew Brees just draw up the perfect Mother’s Day play after failing to draw the perfect game plan? He’s no longer throwing touchdowns. After retiring from the NFL, with a rough final game and a 38.1 passer rating against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he didn’t look back. Instead, he jumped into the business world and started building something new.

His Instagram is packed with promotions, showing off bowling, arcades, food, and fun. Surge looks like the ideal spot for a family celebration, and just in time for Mother’s Day. He’s also staying active with podcasts, sharing stories, and keeping a public presence. Brees isn’t missing football—he’s winning in a whole new arena.

Drew Brees, the retired Saints quarterback, posted a new reel on May 8 promoting Surge Entertainment, his family fun center. The caption reads like a playbook for Mother’s Day: “Let Mom enjoy her Mother’s Day off from the chaos — OR let her enjoy some family fun! This Sunday at Surge Entertainment: Mom + 3 bowl FREE!” The offer is simple, the message clear—whatever Mom wants, Surge has it covered. And with Mother’s Day landing on May 11, the timing couldn’t be better.

The video starts on a soft, wholesome note, reminding fans that even football legends are somebody’s son. Bree gives a shout-out to moms everywhere, saying thank you for “all that you do for our families, for your kids, your husbands, your communities.” The visuals follow suit—smiling kids, laughing mothers, and warm family moments inside the Surge venue.

Then, the vibe shifts—gently, humorously. Brees cracks a joke that hits close to home. “Wait, the moms can just drop the kids off with the dads, right? And they can just go do a spa day?” he says. His delivery is casual, but the point is sharp: moms deserve a break. “I mean, they love their kids and all, but don’t they get like eight days a week with their kids anyway? Like this is the one day where they get a break, right?” It’s comedy with a little truth tucked in.

That truth becomes the heart of his message. “There’s no rule that moms have to hang out with their kids on Mother’s Day, is it?” Brees asks. It’s a playful challenge to the idea that Mother’s Day must be spent in full-on family mode. Instead, he’s encouraging moms to spend it how they actually want. And Surge Entertainment gives them the option: family fun if they want it, or a little time off if they don’t.

Even with his work at Surge Entertainment, Drew Brees still follows the Saints. It’s been four years since retirement, but he stays close to the game. Not only is he shooting videos, but he is also giving fans veteran insights.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tyler Shough the future of the Saints, or just another hopeful in a crowded QB room?

Have an interesting take?

Drew Brees sniffs out Tyler Shough as “the one.”

Drew Brees appeared on the podcast Sports Talk with Bobby. He kicked things off by promoting Surge Entertainment, his new amusement center in Metairie. Then, the conversation shifted to football. Specifically, to the Saints’ newest quarterback, Tyler Shough. Brees seemed excited about the rookie and dove right into a detailed breakdown of what makes him stand out.

Shough was taken 40th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. A second-round pick, and a pretty high one at that. Brees praised his size and toughness. “Big, strong guy,” he said. Someone who’ll stand in the pocket, take hits, and still make plays. He talked about Shough’s rare throwing ability. His anticipation and arm strength. Saints GM Mickey Loomis said the pick was all about “maturity and experience.”

Drew Brees also has the same opinion. He pointed to the quarterback’s journey through college as proof of his resilience and readiness. Shough’s been tested, and according to the Saints’ retired QB, that matters. Brees said, “But to me, here’s a guy who comes in with a ton of maturity. He’s had to battle through a lot of adversity. He’s been exposed to a lot of college football, and he’s gotten a ton of experience. And I think spending that last year in Louisville with Jeff Brohm was probably that tipping point for him—where he was able to combine his experience and everything he had battled through with a coach who’s a great developer of quarterbacks and a great system.” That’s not just praise. It’s a strong endorsement from someone who knows the position better than most.

Brees’ confidence in Shough’s potential is clear, but he also speculates that the draft may be a sign of instability in the Saints’ QB room. With the uncertainty surrounding the starting Saints’ QB Derek Carr’s injury, it’s evident the Saints are preparing for a range of scenarios. Whatever the outcome, one thing’s certain—Brees surely has his foot in a lot of places, both in football and beyond.
