Back in 1994, when FOX NFL Sunday was still in its nascent phase, they brought in the trio of Jimmy Johnson, Terry Bradshaw, and Howie Long. Since then, they have made every appearance memorable with a perfect mix of football knowledge, humor, and straight-up fun. There was no surprise when Terry played a prank on Johnson saying that his singing career adds a 6-figure pay to his bank account. Something that Bradshaw continues as a running joke on Jimmy.
However, after 31 years of being the face and voice of FOX’s staple, Jimmy finally packed his bags and left FOX for good in March. Surely, it was sad news for Terry. However, long before he saw Jimmy walk into the sunset, his other friend from FOX too left. In 2023, Dave Wannstedt moved on from his role in FOX NFL Kick-off on Sunday mornings during the season to join rival NBC in 2023 to host Pro Football Weekly on NBC Sports Chicago. Although Dave joined FOX in 2014, years after Terry had already made a name for himself in the media business, Wannstedt and the former QB knew each other since the latter’s day in Pittsburgh.
Turns out, Dave was a graduate assistant coach for the Steelers through 1975-78 when TB12 was still in his prime. The acquaintances grew into a friendship where Dave would even call Terry, “Terr” something no one ever dared. So, when it came to his news of leaving, of course, Terry did not accept the fact and move on. And now, he has asked the same question to Lou Canellis of FOX 32 Chicago.

The host replied: “All the time, I see Wanny.”
Bradshaw said, “He [Dave Wannstedt] and I are big… big buddies. Especially during football season, ’cause he gives me all my Bears inside stuff.”
Lou added: “He’s such a good man. And you know what Terry? He’s got really good in this business.”
Bradshaw sadly continued: “I’m shocked that FOX didn’t keep him. He was so good. I don’t understand television obviously, but he’s one of my favorite people. Top 5 guy man. He calls me Terr, nobody calls me Terr. I’m TB, I’m the ‘blonde bomber’, I’m ‘Bub’, but not ‘Terr’ – [but he’s like ‘Terr! whatcha doin’?”… He is a good man!””
Dave has been a head coach of the Chicago Bears, the Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh Steelers from 2005 to 2010. At that time, Bradshaw was fully into FOX Sports’ broadcasting. Dave turned heads with his broadcasting skills after football retirement, and Terry Bradshaw was no exception to it.

The Cowboys‘ former defensive coordinator contributed to FOX NFL Kick-Off on Sunday mornings throughout the NFL season. But in 2023, he wanted to join NBC, and that’s why he left the FOX NFL table. But you know, Wannstedt was not the only one to leave FOX NFL. After him, former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson also left FOX NFL.

Jimmy Johnson left FOX after 31 years
It was March 2025 when Hall of Fame Head Coach Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement from Broadcasting after 31 years. He joined FOX’s broadcasting on Sunday’s games in 1994, and that journey crossed 31 years.
Terry Bradshaw’s colleague at FOX and the Cowboys legend, Jimmy Johnson, shared his announcement on Colin Cowherd’s podcast, ‘Herd with Colin Cowherd’. While talking about his retirement, 81-year-old Johnson said, “The most fun I’ve ever had in my career — that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships — was at Fox Sports. I have an absolute ball with my friends on the set — the best friends I’ve ever had, there with Fox…” But after saying this, he continued by shocking every NFL fan who has watched those two Super Bowl wins.

Jimmy Johnson, sadly, added, “But I’ve made an extremely difficult decision. I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years. I’ve decided to retire from Fox. I’m gonna miss it. I’m gonna miss all the guys. I’ll see them occasionally. But it has been a great run starting back 31 years ago.” The legendary coach joined Terry Bradshaw and FOX after completing five years for the Cowboys in 1994. But then in 1996, he went to Miami to coach the Dolphins for four years. After completing his final head coaching journey, he remained an NFL analyst at FOX Sports.
