The New York Giants’ rookie duo just got jinxed. Cam Skattebo and Jaxson Dart looked like a spark Brian Daboll desperately needed after the whole Russell Wilson experiment burned out. But Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle in Philly. So tough to watch that the players turned their heads when the running back lay on the ground with his ankle twisted backward.

On the FOX broadcast, Kevin Burkhardt summed it up midgame. “The Giants have had some good moments here… but they absorbed the tough injury to Cam Skattebo, which was brutal,” he said.

But then came Tom Brady, dropping truth and a lifeline in one go. “They have Tyrone Tracy, who did have a thousand yards rushing as a rookie last year,” he pointed out. Tyrone Tracy Jr’s name wasn’t said by accident. He’s the next man up.

Tyrone did not have a “thousand yards rushing,” but yes, he did rush for 839 yards and started 12 games out of 17 last season. This year, he has started 2 games out of 5 with 120 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Now, the backfield torch passes his way again.

Brady added, “Don’t completely abandon the run game. There’s no reason to…So just kind of hang back there, he’s getting good protection from his guys up front.”

Tracy brings exactly that. Experience and ball security, with zero fumbles so far in 2025. He’s not a home-run hitter like Skattebo, but he can at least keep the chains moving.

However, Brady didn’t just name a replacement; he also delivered a harsh truth that every athlete learns the hard way.

Tom Brady’s message to Cam Skattebo

Injuries sting, but there’s no time to sulk. That’s real football logic from TB12, who’s seen everything.

“I know it’s a tough injury, but that’s football; you got to deal with it. You got to go to this tough environment against the defending world champs and try to go out there,” Brady said.

Skattebo’s dislocated ankle ended what was shaping up to be an award-worthy debut. The fourth-round pick had totaled 587 yards from scrimmage with 6 rushing and receiving touchdowns.

Then one awkward tackle flipped the season. But that’s the harsh reality: injuries don’t care about breakout stories. The Giants fell 38-20 to the Philadelphia Eagles, and the box score didn’t offer mercy.

Jaxson Dart was sacked five times. The defense allowed 277 rushing yards. But if you look past the wreckage, Brady’s words sound right.
