Just a few days before his death, Nick Mangold reached out to the world asking for a kidney donor. The former New York Jets center revealed that he had been fighting chronic kidney disease caused by a genetic defect diagnosed back in 2006.

Despite the grim diagnosis, he stayed hopeful, promising fans he’d be back at MetLife and The Shoe soon. But on October 25, 2025, Mangold died from complications at the age of 41. The tragedy came just as he was being considered for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame.
