Fans and professionals alike relentlessly made the QB the butt of jokes for his venture into the solitary woods of Oregon. But it would seem that Rodgers is more a pioneer than a man of blind faith.

After his trade to the New York Jets, much has been made of Aaron Rodgers’ time making a decision on his future within his 4-day darkness retreat. Rodgers gave detailed accounts of his experiences within the darkness retreat, including his wild hallucination stories. But through it all, the QB seems to have inspired many other professional athletes to follow a similar path to self-discovery.

Aaron Rodgers has been a mentor and inspirational figure to many. But the latest subscriber to the Aaron Rodgers School of knowledge seems to be none other than Minnesota Timberwolves Star, Rudy Gobert. Gobert took to Instagram as he shared visuals of his own Darkness Retreat Session, following in the exact footsteps of the million-dollar QB.

After another dismal exit in the playoffs, much like his inspiration Aaron Rodgers, Rudy Gobert took on the path to self-discovery as he made a trip to the Oregon retreat center. For Gobert, the experience was definitely worth the cause, as he shared his thoughts on the experience on IG.  “One of the most powerful experiences I’ve had in this lifetime,” Gobert recounted of his 64-hour stay within the pitch-dark walls of the same Darkness Retreat which housed Rodgers. 

Is the darkness retreat trend catching on?

Living in complete darkness for over 60 hours sounds like a nearly impossible task and one that we surely wouldn’t recommend. But for many, Darkness retreats have long been associated with spiritual growth. For athletes like Rodgers and Gobert, the retreats offer a unique opportunity to strip away external noise and reconnect with their true selves.

As darkness retreats gains traction among elite athletes, it raises intriguing questions about the future of performance enhancement. Could this practice become a standard part of offseason training programs? Will more athletes embrace this intense form of self-discovery? Only time will tell. However, one thing is certain—darkness retreats certainly offer a transformative experience, one that many might be tempted to undertake.
