There are more GOAT debates in the NBA world than in any other sporting hemisphere. While Tom Brady has pretty much claimed his undisputed status in the NFL, the same can’t be said about the association. With each era witnessing a new superstar, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James have been in the debates significantly longer. However, after LBJ recently reiterated his greatness with a cryptic Jay-Z lyric, fans tore down the LA Lakers legend’s numero uno narrative. Some experts, however, think that James only did what MJ, Brady, and Lionel Messi have already done in the past.

3x Super Bowl champion and LBJ cheerleader Shannon Sharpe doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with believing you’re the greatest. Especially since all the greats have shared a very similar mentality and attitude. And Sharpe pointed out the instances that prove LBJ very much deserves his own bragging rights.

Days after the Los Angeles Lakers lost in the Western Conference finals to the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James’ future in the NBA is uncertain for the first time in over two decades. Although he hasn’t hinted at retirement, his IG story made many fans consider that possibility. “I’m supposed to be no 1 on everybody’s list. We’ll see what happens when I no longer exist,” Bron quoted Jay-Z. Shannon Sharpe doesn’t see anything wrong with the boastfulness.

This notion that only LeBron James has ever done anything to remind people of his greatness is just not true…. I’m telling you, Michael Jordan did it…. Tom Brady did it… Lionel Messi did it. So I’m trying to figure what the deal is,” Sharpe said on the Undisputed Show.

Tom Brady has done his fair share of bragging too

Back in 2020, when Tom Brady left the New England Patriots, there were a few teams that passed on the quarterbacking icon during free agency before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roped him in to win a Lombardi that season. And Brady didn’t like being passed on. In an episode of ‘The Shop’, Brady compared himself to other sporting legends like Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan.

I think what you realize is, there’s not as many smart people as you think. That’s just the reality. I think it’d be a no-brainer if you said, ‘Hey, you’ve got a chance to get Wayne Gretzky on your team, or you got a chance to have Michael Jordan on your team,” the 7x Super Bowl champion had said.

Clearly, self-promotion is a big factor to stay relevant in the GOAT debate business. And Shannon Sharpe’s LBJ analogies make perfect sense for the NBA’s all-time highest scorer’s legacy.
