As per an NFL expert, the star of the upcoming NFL Draft has been having it too easy. Projected to be the number 1 QB overall, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner is a part of all Draft speculations. While he’s worked just as hard as anyone else, he is alleged to have had a rainbow-coloured career so far without any hindrances.

Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, is the best quarterback to have come out of the 2023 class. With an exceptional performance that saw him throw out over 3,633 passing yards and finish over 30 touchdowns, it makes sense why he is the projected first pick for the Chicago Bears. Now that he’s ready to step into the arena of the NFL, Greg McElroy claims that Williams has had everything too easy.

On the latest episode of the ‘NFL on ESPN’ show, Greg McElroy joined Kevin Clark to discuss the traits a top quarterback should have and instantly arrived at the topic of dissecting Caleb Williams. Moreover, McElroy came out with his controversial take claiming that Williams hasn’t had it tough in the football world while also comparing him to NFL legends like Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. Furthermore, he seems to believe that a player can’t be great without a “chip on their shoulder”.

He said, “I mean, from the time he stepped foot in Oklahoma to the time he stepped on campus in SC, he has never experienced adversity. Very little adversity as far as how he was received and how he was portrayed as the next best guy. Even when his team went 7-6, it wasn’t because of Caleb. Is there that chip on the shoulder that’s gonna keep him going 10-12 years down the road, the way it does Mahomes who’s still pissed that he got drafted 10th. Like Tom Brady, you’re too old, you’re too slow. They’re almost a little crazy and you’ve gotta be a little crazy to be elite.” Thus, with McElroy’s asinine take on Williams’ glory, the fans have been upset about it but no more than Caleb, who fired back at the former NFL player harshly.

Caleb Williams claps back at McElroy with a recent tweet

It is undoubtedly an unreasonable opinion for McElroy to have about a player not being elite just because he hasn’t struggled enough. While it is disrespectful to Williams’ hard work and numbers, it also ends up demeaning the legacy that he’s worked so hard for. Thus, when Williams responded to McElroy’s spiteful remarks, the fans couldn’t be happier for the Trojans’ QB.

Williams took to X to fire back at McElroy and said, “Let’s go back to school again 😂🤦🏽‍♂️cause I’m bored rn.. Adversity: “A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.” Y1. Didn’t start freshman year. Y2. Popped hammy championship game 1st Q. Lost bc of my hammy. Y3. 7-5 my last year of college ball.” Thus, Williams came out with his list of hardships he faced during his three years at USC that made him the phenomenal QB he is today.
