The prince of the Trojans is almost ready to step into the world of the NFL. But before he does that, comparisons between him and other players are already taking over. Despite all the tension, Caleb Williams remains confident in his abilities as he awaits the Chicago Bears to draft him.

Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, is a phenomenal talent who justifiably sits at the top of his 2023 class. Additionally, Williams is projected to be the No. 1 quarterback draft pick. While he has yet to play his first game in the NFL, comparisons with Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers have already dogged headlines. However, a recent analyst’s perspective speaks against these debates and claims that Williams resonates with Russell Wilson, who just might be better than both Mahomes and Rodgers.

On the latest episode of The Rich Eisen Show, ESPN’s Matt Miller joined in to discuss Caleb Williams’ chances of succeeding with the Chicago Bears. Later, the segment dove into the comparisons between Williams and Mahomes that have long taken over draft conversations.

Miller quickly refuted these claims and compared him to another NFL QB, Russell Wilson. He said, “I think there styles of Mahomes, styles of Aaron Rodgers. I’ve said he reminds me a lot of a young Russell Wilson because I think he’s also a more accomplished runner than Mahomes or Rodgers have really been in their career. Some of that’s by design but I think Caleb can be a dual-threat quarterback. We certainly saw that at Oklahoma so I see a young Russell Wilson, who we have to remember was, you know, back-to-back Super Bowls, was a top five, top six NFL quarterback certainly at times. So I think Caleb could be that type of player, but I just don’t want to put the Mahomes expectations on anyone.”

Moreover, the fans have essentially described Williams as “Patrick Mahomes 2.0.” The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner had to say this about all these comparisons.

Caleb Williams is looking forward to his showdown against the Chiefs’ QB

If there’s anything we know about Williams, he’s quite an ambitious player. He is striving to be the best and, more precisely, trying to beat Tom Brady’s legacy. There have been times when Williams has talked about winning eight Super Bowls, one more than the former QB. Being compared to Mahomes constantly, Williams’ answer caused the fans’ jaws to drop.

Caleb has yet to play a game in the NFL and already believes he’s as good as Mahomes, if not better. His astonishing statement was, “Everybody gets crazy when I say that. There’s things that he does, physically — obviously, I’m not Patrick Mahomes and I’m not in his brain — but things that he does physically that I don’t think that I can’t do. So, I just call it respect, and hopefully soon I’ll be able to see him and have a good battle.” Thus, with only days away from Williams’ entry into the NFL, he seems ready to take on the supposed best quarterback in the league, and we couldn’t be more excited.
