The Jayden Daniels versus Drake Maye debate is taking a turn unlike any other. Two of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 class are set to battle it out for the top spot on April 25 but as per a recent report, Daniels might just want to bow out to Maye in the hopes of not being drafted by the Commanders.

Jayden Daniels, the quarterback for the LSU Tigers, is a favorite to end up in the number two spot overall. The North Carolina quarterback Tar Heels is right behind him at the number 3 spot. Even though Drake Maye is predicted to be the number-one pick of the Patriots, everything might just change if the claims about Daniels’ reservations about Washington turn out to be true.

As of April 19, the Pat McAfee show had quite the controversial take on Jayden Daniels’ NFL future, which is set to be determined in 6 days. While he is most likely to end up with either the Commanders or the Patriots, the analysts on the show believe it to be the latter for the QB’s potential team.

The guests on the show said, “There’s some scuttlebutt going around that said maybe Jayden Daniels doesn’t want to go to the Commanders. And then Florio, I think this morning kind of said the same thing.” Moreover, he mentioned the name of Mike Florio, who is the creator and owner of one of the leading NFL news organizations in America, ProFootballTalk.com. As such, he makes for a reliable source about the prospect of Jayden Daniels. What’s also interesting to note is that the fate of Daniels’ team will directly affect where the North Carolina QB, Drake Maye ends up since both players are fighting for the second spot in the 2024 NFL Draft. With all that said, here’s ESPN’s Matt Miller giving his views on why the Commanders should choose Maye over Daniels in the Draft.

The question of who the Commanders will pick at the number 2 spot is one of the most talked about topics related to the Draft. With Williams’ going to the Chicago Bears being an (almost) absolute certainty, the drama of the Draft rests on the shoulders of Maye and Daniels. Even though the projections put Daniels as the new QB for the Commanders, Matt Miller believes it should be Maye in that spot.

He said, “Maye has more upside. I question Daniels’ ability to play in condensed spaces. Another consideration for the scout making the pick? Maye’s ability to make throws with pressure in his face and absorb the impact of free pass-rushers in the North Carolina passing game.” Thus, we’ll all have to sit on the edge of our seats as we await the final results of April 25, the much-anticipated 2024 NFL Draft.
