The Michigan star is on a rapid trajectory to win the hearts of the fans all over but a recent comparison with the Jets’ QB could lead to his downfall quickly. The crown jewel of Jim Harbaugh’s 2023 season, he ended up impressing the NFL scouts at the Combine with his exceptional throws. And now as he preps to go into the world of the NFL, the name of Zach Wilson lures over him like a sword to his neck.

J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, was a tremendous athlete during the last season. He was a top contender for the Heisman Trophy before losing out to Jayden Daniels but managed to be the spine behind his team’s glory. McCarthy led the team to a 15-0 undefeated streak before finally helping them win the national championship. Additionally, after his NFL Combine performance, his draft stock has been on a constant rise but the fans worry that his similarities with Zach Wilson might be a red flag.

Zach Wilson, the quarterback for the New York Jets, is a player who witnessed his fall from the grace. While initially, he was the second overall pick by the Jets in 2021, his performance level has drastically decreased ever since he was given the role of the starting quarterback. Moreover, when Aaron Rodgers was injured in his debut match against the Bills, all eyes were on Wilson to step up but unfortunately, he couldn’t rise to the challenge.

Moreover, after three seasons, the Jets are giving up on Wilson since he’s statistically one of the worst QBs to ever be drafted at such a high pick. Now that the trade talks surrounding the name of Wilson are gaining more ears by the day, McCarthy will have to work hard to ensure that his career never surmounts such a situation. McCarthy is all set to be one of the top QB picks in April at the Draft but will have all eyes on him as they await an exceptional career from him in the NFL. With all that said, here’s a look at what the GM of the Jets had to say about the transfer of Zach Wilson.

GM Douglas said, “Well, I’ve had good conversations with his agent, Brian Ayrault. Where we are exactly, we’ve given them permission to talk to other teams about a trade. I’m going to circle back with Brian at some point, this week or next week, just to see how those conversations go. Other than that, there’s nothing else to report.” Thus, the Jets will either be looking to bring Rodgers back soon or hope for another bright QB from the Draft, who lives up to the hype.
