Could JJ McCarthy rekindle the lost flame that Tom Brady took away with him when he left the New England Patriots in 2019? New England dropped considerably after the departure of the NFL GOAT, who led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, winning the last one in February 2019. Since then, they have failed to appear in any conference games, let alone in the Super Bowl.

JJ McCarthy is entering this year’s draft with much hype, impressing his potential teams in the NFL with his performance at the NFL Combine and his pro day. In addition to his talents, his record at Michigan, where he recorded 28-1 in his two seasons, adds to his credibility. Also, he led his team to win the National Championship last season for the first time since 1997. No wonder the Patriots, who are much due for another Super Bowl, might be interested in this young talent.

The Patriots are having dinner with JJ McCarthy

The Patriots are stepping up as the 2024 NFL Draft draws near. They’ve shown a keen interest in the Michigan QB, JJ McCarthy. According to a report by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on X, the Patriots are actively engaging with McCarthy. They’re having dinner with him tonight and have scheduled a visit with him in Foxborough on Monday. This level of involvement suggests that the Patriots are seriously considering McCarthy as a potential pick.

The race for JJ McCarthy is heating up. The Chicago Bears are widely expected to pick Caleb Williams as their No. 1 pick. McCarthy has already met with the New York Giants and is scheduled to meet the Washington Commanders, who hold the second pick this week. With their third pick, the Patriots need a quarterback, and they have also hosted the two other top quarterbacks: Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels. However, the Patriots’ director of scouting, Eliot Wolf, is reportedly ‘pushing hard’ to secure McCarthy. It’s a tight competition, with several teams vying for the 21-year-old’s talent.

Could JJ McCarthy be a potential No. 2 pick?

After the retirement of Bill Belichick, the Patriots are set to embark on a new era with Jerod Mayo as their new HC and a new QB. Mayo has said picking a quarterback at No. 3 is a “priority.” Their eyes are set on JJ McCarthy, who completed 68.5% of his passes with 44 TDs to nine interceptions as a starter in Michigan. But would he be available at No. 3?

Speculations are rife about the Commanders’ interest in drafting McCarthy. Washington GM Adam Peters reportedly hinted at the possibility of drafting him at No. 2. However, the biggest rumor is they are drafting Jayden Daniels. With just 10 days left before the big draft day, the uncertainty and speculations are at their peak. The final outcome will soon put all these rumors to rest, adding to the excitement of the upcoming draft.
