Deion Sanders is more than proud of this special player he coached as he finally joined him in Canton on Friday. Hester had been selected for this coveted honor in 2022 and 2023 but was snubbed both years which infuriated the Buffs HC who commented last year, “How can Devin Hester not be a Hall of Famer? This is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Devin Hester changed the darn game.” But now we can leave all that bitterness behind as the 41-year-old finally received what he deserves.

The warm and emotional embrace with his mentor and idol Deion Sanders who had always believed in him, stole the show as the 2024 class Hall of Famer gets honored for his accomplishment. Hester played with the Bears for 11 seasons and set several NFL records in career return touchdowns (20), kick-return touchdowns (19), and punt-return touchdowns (14). But what’s the history of these two Pro Football Hall of Famers?

The relationship between Deion Sanders and Devin Hester

It all happened when Hester was a college football player at Miami, where he met Deion Sanders through Ed Reed. From there, the 56-year-old became his counselor and advisor and the young Hester emulated Coach Prime’s trademark touchdown dance. But it was Hester’s Super Bowl XLI stunt against the Indianapolis Colts that took their relationship to a whole new level when he started the game by returning the game’s opening kick for a touchdown, the first and fastest of its kind in Super Bowl history.

Deion Sanders described his reaction during that moment explaining, “We were in the tunnel in Miami and I was looking, I was like ‘He’s gonna house this thing. He’s gonna house it’…  When he cut I saw him find daylight. I ran from under the tunnel down to the end zone… I mean I was in tears because I was so proud of him.” In the years that followed, the two maintained a strong bond leading up to 2024’s ultimate recognition. We can only feel an overwhelming sense of satisfaction seeing both of them celebrating their happiness!
