Just like the legendary A-Rod, Caleb Williams is one of the best quarterbacks college football has ever seen. He is bringing up this sensation again making it publicly known that he wants a share of the team he’s joining in the NFL. He also shares his interest in acquiring partial ownership over the team he joins if he declares for the 2024 NFL draft. With several teams waiting with open arms to receive the top prospect, it’s left to be seen if his proposal will be accepted.

With his talent on the field, Caleb Williams has led the USC Trojans to 6-1 as they lead at No. 1 in the Pac-12. This season, he secured 2,021 yards and 23 touchdowns. But even though he’s still the No. 1 NFL draft prospect, he likely won’t be able to get this dream fulfilled.

Aaron Rodgers’ attempt to secure equity with the Jets

Recently, New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers tried to secure partial ownership of the franchise in his contract discussions. But before the Jets or people could react, the NFL intervened to say it’s not allowed. As per a report by Sports Business Journal, the NFL has banned players or employees from owning shares with the team, following Josh Harris’ partial acquisition of the Washington Commanders

A possible reason why the NFL has set this rule is that it can create complications with the salary cap. Another reason is that not every team in the NFL is capable of issuing equity and this can cause a rift between teams. So, Aaron Rodgers never got the satisfaction of owning part of the Jets. Even so, he has struck a lucrative deal with the Jets. The deal is that he’ll receive a guaranteed $75 million over a two-year contract with the team.

Caleb Williams may be the most valuable player in college football right now. But not even he can defy the rules that the NFL has set. Considering the unsuccessful attempt of Jets Aaron Rodgers in acquiring equity, Caleb Williams will head into the NFL without ownership.
