Shedeur Sanders made a bold claim at his Big 12 conference speech saying Colorado is “everybody’s Super Bowl.” Now, a lot of people interpreted it the wrong way, including Coach JB and Paul Finebaum, who can’t digest a claim as audacious as this. After Coach JB’s jab on the 22-year-old’s statement three days ago, Finebaum gets in the picture.

The animosity between Shedeur and Finebaum isn’t something new. This time, the 68-year-old slammed the Buffs QB on First Take, saying, “Shedeur, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays. Colorado isn’t important in college football.” Following this opposition, former NFL QB Robert Griffin III voiced his thoughts on Finebaum’s criticisms.

On July 16, Robert Griffin III took to social media to voice his displeasure and objection over Finebaum’s criticism of Colorado. Responding to the critic’s opinions, he defended Shedeur’s SB claim on X writing, “HE IS CORRECT, if you take the time to understand what he meant.” And he went on to break down the Buffs QB’s SB statement.

According to RGIII’s reasoning, Colorado garnered record-breaking viewers early into last season with their Week 4 game against Oregon drawing in 10.3 million viewers. So it’s no wonder every opponent is aware they’re under the national spotlight when they play against Boulder and they want to play their best. As RGIII puts it, “It wasn’t JUST ABOUT winning, they wanted to humiliate them and kill their confidence.” And it looks like this season is going to be filled with challenges with a warning that’s very likely going to turn into a true scenario.

Colorado delivered a reality check before the upcoming season

On July 12, On3’s Andy Staples provided his understanding of Shedeur’s SB assertion. Backing his reason with highly viewed games against CSU and Oregon, he said, “Everyone who plays Colorado wants to kick the crap out of Colorado.” After all, Colorado has made themselves their opponents’ spotlights with their hype.

This is what Staples said and in a way, it resounds the thinking of many people, “Everybody that Colorado plays, if you don’t think they want to make a point when they play Colorado, you’re crazy. Shedeur is absolutely right about this and it’s not helpful for Colorado.” The Buffs may have revamped their roster this season but they are transitioning to the Big 12 for the first time. Besides, their opener against FCS champs North Dakota State doesn’t make their beginning any easier. We’ll leave it to fate to decide the future of the Buffs in 2024.
