The Atlanta Falcons suffered in 2023 at the QB position despite having an amiable offense lineup. Seeing their need for a QB, Coach Prime had envisioned Shedeur Sanders to take it up after the 2025 NFL Draft. One of those teams is his former team, the Atlanta Falcons, with whom he played for five seasons. But after the Falcons’ recent acquisition of QB Kirk Cousins, he gave an interesting reply on YouTube’s USA TODAY Sports when his host said the team would regret signing the 35-year-old QB.

Coach Prime not only told the media that he doesn’t want his son to play for certain teams but he also dropped his opinions on which would be the ideal teams that would fit his son in the pro league. Deion Sanders had said on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast that the Philadelphia Eagles could be a “good fit.” He also stated that his former teams – San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Commanders are also potential landing places.

But now that the option may not be available anymore, here’s what Coach Prime had to say, “Why would they regret signing Kirk Cousins? Because of the possibility of acquiring Shedeur Sander? I don’t know. Is that what you’re saying?

The Falcons signed Kirk Cousins on a $180 million four-year deal on March 11, 2024, where he received $100 million in guarantees. But while this means that the Falcons already found a star QB, Coach Prime doesn’t mind that Shedeur Sanders would have to cross off Atlanta as a potential landing place. The former 2x SB champion said of Cousins, “I like Kirk Cousins. Kirk wins man. He gets the job done. They may not like him because they counting his bag but man, I like him. I really do.” And it’s not hard to see why Deion Sanders holds him in high regard.

Kirk Cousins is a priority in the Falcons 2024 roster

Setting an NFL record with the most game-winning drives in a single season at 8 (with Matthew Stafford), Kirk Cousins is entering his 13th season in the NFL after being drafted by the Falcons in free agency. The 4x Pro-Bowler is a valuable addition to the Falcons roster which is regarded as a “high priority” by the team’s coach Raheem Morris. He said of Cousins, “He was one of those things that we wanted to go out there and try to establish pretty early… [signing him] gives us the best chance to win football games and go out there and compete every single weekend.”

Last season with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins suffered a torn right Achilles eight games into the season, the most severe one he encountered in his playing career. Despite that, he finished the season by completing 69.5% of his passes and scored 18 TDs with five interceptions. The Falcons suffered a sad record of 7-10 in the 2023 season. It’ll be interesting to see if the arrival of Kirk Cousins can turn the franchise around.
