Jim Harbaugh transitioned to the pro league months ago, but the college football world isn’t ready to let him go just yet, with his former team, Michigan, in hot water.

Now led by Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines are under the NCAA’s microscope for their sign-stealing operation. Now, both Harbaugh and Moore could face potential punishment in this scandal. Last year, during their championship season, it came to light that the team had been stealing signs from opponents and using them to make plays. Some are even calling for their championship title to be revoked. However, there are some reassuring words from an ESPN expert.

Pete Thamel appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss the ongoing drama. McAfee asked him, “Is there any chance from what you know right now that Michigan is gonna be suspended from postseason play or not be able to win the Big 10?” Thamel provided some relief by saying, “One thing I’m certain of is that any accomplishments they won’t be taken away.” Thamel explained that their achievements wouldn’t be stripped away since the players were not involved in the sign-stealing issue. McAfee cheered, “Okay. Champions forever. Congratulations Michigan.” Now, those are sure to be some comforting words for the Wolverines. 

Thamel also mentioned, “It’s extremely difficult to get a postseason ban. The conventional thought is that Michigan will likely get some kind of giant fine.” Given the controversy, this seems like a likely outcome. Meanwhile, there’s also pressure to dismiss Sherrone Moore for being a “repeat violator.”

He’s linked to the sign-stealing scandal with Harbaugh and accused of recruiting violations during the NCAA dead period. These activities put Moore under serious pressure, while Jim Harbaugh completely denies any involvement in the drama.

Jim Harbaugh denies involvement in Michigan scandal

Jim Harbaugh is in damage-control mode now. The former Michigan coach, now with the NFL’s LA Chargers, is facing serious allegations that his old team broke NCAA rules. However, Harbaugh is adamant that he has nothing to do with it.

Harbaugh proudly told the media today that he “never lie, never cheat, never steal.” He says he was raised to be honest and fair, and he taught his players the same. Now, the coach faces serious accusations, including a Level 1 violation, which is the worst kind. But Harbaugh readily gives blunt clarification to clear the air. “If you stumble, you apologize and you make it right. Today, I do not apologize. I did not participate, was not aware nor complicit in those said allegations,” he says. 

Now, the NCAA is investigating the whole mess, and Michigan could lose some of its staff or face other penalties. But for now, Harbaugh seems safe in his NFL job. If the NCAA finds some proof linking him to the drama, things could get ugly, though.
