Deion Sanders is tired! People won’t stop criticizing his unconventional recruiting approach. That’s why when he came across articles claiming that he doesn’t entertain off-campus visits, he set the record straight. In an interview, he said, “There’s an article that came out that said that I don’t go out visit. My approach is totally different than many coaches approach… I’m a businessman as well. So, I try to save our university money every darn chance I get.”

He further explained how it would be “pandemonium” if he decided to visit one particular school and didn’t visit other schools nearby. Coach Prime felt that this approach might work for other coaches, but it doesn’t work for him. “I really, truly, and in all my heart believe that parents don’t want me in their house. They want to come see my house … They want to see what I got going on.”

When ‘Blue Bloods Bias’ posted Sanders’ interview clip on X (formerly Twitter), the Colorado HC found a loyal supporter in Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin. Kiffin reposted the interview clip, showing Prime Time’s words resonated with him.

Further in the interview, Sanders said, “I wanna show them Boulder. I want them to see how beautiful it is, and why I’m so eager, and how much I love this city and state and this team.” It’s no secret that Coach Prime truly loves Colorado, and maybe he just wants his prospective recruits to get a taste of what he sees when he brings them to Boulder. At the same time, he saves the University a lot of money.

Deion Sanders saves Colorado $200K by not flying to recruits!

Now, in his first 14 months as the Head Coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders attracted some big names to his team. This includes offensive lineman Jordan Seaton and cornerback Cormani McClain. But as reported by ‘USA Today’, Coach Prime didn’t even have to leave the campus to achieve this.

The university confirmed that he made zero off-campus contacts with recruiting prospects. This means he did not visit any homes or schools which is how a big chunk of recruiting actually happens. Sanders’ employment contract with the University gives him an annual budget of $200,000 to use for private air travel for recruiting. He didn’t use it.

Instead, he opted for quite a lot of transfer players and very few high school players. As a result, home visits weren’t a priority for him. In contrast, former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh had about 145 off-campus contacts from Dec. 1, 2022, until he left the team for the NFL. Further, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had 128 off-campus recruiting visits since Dec. 1, 2022.

In fact, while Colorado’s football team might not be using the stipulated budget for air travel and off-campus visits, the men’s basketball program has used it for recruiting. What do you think about Deion Sanders’ unique ways of recruiting?
