The LSU Tigers are undergoing a cleanup job following their recent win against Wisconsin. The LSU side participated in the ReliaQuest Bowl that saw them winning 35-31. However, the game was highly in the favour of LSU as the Wisconsin side lacked the offensive depth.

Now, following the victory the Tigers’ HC Brian Kelly has made some key changes as per the backroom personnel. He is eyeing the next season and looking forward to going all the way with new coaches by his side. It was a tough decision as Kelly had to make some axing for the support staff and coaches. What prompted the decision to fire the staff and who’s the person Kelly’s targeting as a replacement?

After making the firing calls, Kelly is on course to rope in Missouri defensive coordinator

It’s been just a couple of days since the LSU Tigers won their ReliaQuest Bowl against the Wisconsin side. The defensive coordinator job is up for grabs and it looks to be that Blake Baker is in contention for the role. However, the moments of celebration and ecstasy were overshadowed by some firing of staff members. Brian Kelly is apparently letting go of the former coaching staff and making room for new persons to come through. Reportedly, Kelly is targeting Blake Baker for the defensive coordinator role. The HC looking to replace Harbaugh as the Wolverines coach made some crunch decisions.

Baker is a familiar face at LSU and the HC is trying to persuade him to another run with the collegiate team. This comes in days after Kelly fired the existing Defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Matt House, safeties coach Kerry Cooks and cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples. Moreover, defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey won’t be retained after this season. However, there’s an interesting question, why is Kelly seeking the Blake Baker route?

Brian Kelly’s persistence with Blake Baker

Sometimes the actions of HC can’t be judged based merely on the surface level observations. The same can be said about Kelly’s interest in bringing in Baker back to the LSU. Baker is currently working with the Missouri Tigers as its defensive coordinator. He was first associated with the LSU back in 2021. He was the linebackers coach then and brought immense success to the team.

Moreover, under Baker’s guidance, Missouri increased its performance manifolds and the ranking highlights the same. Baker has led from the front, taking the Missouri Tigers from 113th rank to 25th! Therefore. there’s some pressure from Missouri to retain the coach with the team. Missouri has broken the bank for Baker and is ready to offer him a $1.1 million contract. For LSU and Kelly, they now race against time to bring the linebackers coach back to the team.
