The top pick for the NFL Draft might rank on the bottom when it comes to being humble. He’s one of the best quarterbacks to rise out of the 2023 season and will most likely end up with a top-tier team in this year’s Draft. Despite his success, he came off a bit boastful while justifying his absence from the NFL Combine.
Caleb Williams was the backbone of the USC Trojans last season. He gave it his all but couldn’t save the team against the might of Washington, which eventually dashed their dreams of a Pac-12 title. But even so, his performance for the team was recognized to the fullest, and now is considered to be the number 1 QB overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That being said, he displayed a poor sense of leadership when he boasted about his skills in the interview for the NFL Combine.

Caleb Williams boldly defends skipping NFL Combine throws with unapologetic confidence

In the latest clip from Caleb Williams’ NFL Combine interview, the quarterback talked about why he chose to miss the practice sessions and had a seemingly arrogant answer in response. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner is projected to be the number 1 draft pick at this year’s NFL Draft but has shown that while he possesses a lot of skills in the gridiron, there’s a lot still left to be said about his humility.

He responded to the question of his absence at the Combine and said, “I didn’t feel the need to go out and throw. I played about 30-something games I believe, go ahead and go watch real, live ball with me and see how I am as a competitor.” The top-rated QBs, including the likes of Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, also chose to skip throwing out at the Combine since they didn’t want to risk an injury-riddled season right before the Draft. Moreover, Williams is facing some more backlash due to announcing his decision to not undergo medical testing at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Talking about the decision to skip out on medical testing, Williams said, “I’ll be doing the medical stuff, just not here in Indy. I’ll be doing it at the team interviews. Not 32 teams can draft me. There’s only one of me. So the teams that I go to for my visit, those teams will have the medical and that’ll be it.” As the Draft draws nearer, it will be interesting to see where Williams ends up and how his NFL career pans out.
