As the deadline looms for underclassmen to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, there’s notable anticipation surrounding USC’s Caleb Williams. Widely considered the premier quarterback prospect, Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, has yet to disclose his plans for the upcoming draft.

Despite a roller-coaster 2023 season, projections still place him at the forefront, making his decision a focal point as teams gear up for the draft process. However, the quarterback from USC may opt to stay in school for another year, according to his father.

Caleb Williams, USC’s junior quarterback and a strong contender for the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, seems to be grappling with the uncertainty of his future. Williams, who expressed the unique challenge of navigating the unpredictable draft process, noted that control over his destination is no longer guaranteed. His father, Carl Williams, offered a bold perspective, suggesting that being selected first in the NFL draft might not be advantageous because of the system’s inherent challenges. “The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he’d almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first,” he said. Despite the uncertainty, Caleb Williams is expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft later today, where he is projected to be “one of the 3 greatest QB prospects of all time.”

In his Heisman Trophy-winning campaign, Caleb Williams showcased his prowess, completing 67% of his passes for an impressive 4,537 yards. He delivered 42 touchdowns and displayed exceptional control with just five interceptions, steering the Trojans to an 11-3 record and earning a spot in the Cotton Bowl. As the current season unfolds, Williams continues to shine, notching nine touchdowns without a single interception in the initial two games, contributing to USC’s standing as the sixth-ranked team.

However, the decision is not straightforward due to the stellar performance of the current starting quarterback, Justin Fields, particularly in the latter part of the season, making the choice more complex. While some insiders suggest a leaning towards selecting a quarterback like Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, the final decision is still uncertain. This decision could potentially impact Fields’ future with the team, raising questions about potential trade scenarios if the Bears opt for a quarterback with the top selection.
