Caleb Williams, the QB from USC Trojan, is the hottest talk in town ahead of the upcoming drafts. Many experts consider him to be the top pick in the draft. Since the Chicago Bears are slated to have the first pick, there is a high possibility that he will be drafted by the Bears, a rumor made true due to the recent meetings between them.

However, some experts have also slated Marvin Harrison Jr. to be the top pick of the draft, while others have started to advise Caleb Williams to decide against the Bears. Earlier, it was former NFL QB Robert Griffin III, and now Cam Newton has joined him while looking into the future if he joins the Bears.

Cam Newton was invited to the podcast of Smitty’s Sports Mac, where he gave a reality check to Caleb Williams while giving him some advice. He said, “Now to RG3’s point, it’s like do you put the feet to the fire and you put yourself first because unlike what Eli Manning had, Caleb Williams doesn’t have that same type of juice.” The moment in reference is from RGIII’s comment on social media when he said, “Caleb Williams should pull an Eli Manning and demand that the Chicago Bears do not draft him No. 1 overall,” But why would RG III make such a harsh request to Caleb Williams? Well, Cam Newton explained that as well.

He revealed the rationale behind his advice and said, “Professional managers manage a locker room, where you are now thrust into a CEO role, where you have to manage the owner, off-field general manager, head coach position, coach, and players. And for Caleb Williams, that’s a tall task, that’s a tall order. That’s not to say he can’t do it, but he must understand what he’s getting himself into.”

Cam Newton perhaps advised Caleb Williams not to join the Bears as the team is in a disaster situation where Williams would have to play multiple roles to pull them out of trouble. Though Newton feels that Williams may be able to do it, he should prepare himself for such responsibilities. This might explain the advice while giving a reference to Eli Manning to bail out of the situation.

Eli Manning’s 2004 Draft advice for Caleb Williams

For fans who do not know, Eli Manning created one of the more dramatic draft situations in 2004 when he was picked by the Chargers. Manning’s agent at the time, Tom Condon, warned the San Diego Chargers that Manning would sit out the entire season if he was picked by them. But, the Chargers refused the warning and picked him only to pay the price an hour later.

Despite posing for the photo with the Chargers, Manning was shortly traded to the New York Giants in exchange for Philip Rivers, a 2004 third-round pick, a 2005 first-round pick and a 2005 fifth-round pick to the Chargers. The reason behind the decision was that the Manning family didn’t think the Chargers were a right fit for the elder brother of Peyton Manning. This was proven correct by Manning’s two Super Bowl victories in 2007 and 2011. So should Caleb Williams pull a similar move on the Bears?
