Just when people thought Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes were done losing key players via the transfer portal, another huge blow was delivered on the program. Star RB Dylan Edwards, who was a hand-picked recruit by Deion Sanders, announced his decision to enter the portal on Tuesday after rushing for 321 yards in five games played last season.

Despite not living up to the expectations of fans last season, Colorado seems to be equipping itself with talented players and preparing for a strong comeback in 2024. So, why are so many players quitting Coach Prime’s program? A college football analyst delivers a possible reason for the Buffs exodus.

Is the focus on Shedeur Sanders the reason for Colorado’s exodus?

ESPN’s Tom Luginbill doesn’t mind taking more hits and digs from Sanders’ fans as he admitted he did last August. But he’s still going to let out his honest opinion and in the latest YouTube upload by Crain & Company on April 25, he let out his powerful bark. And this is what he had to say – “We need to stop focusing on Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Shilo Sanders and start focusing if we’re going to have this discussion about whether Colorado is any good or not, focus on who all the other guys are because that’s what got them into this problem.”

There is no denying that Coach Prime places most of the spotlight on his sons and Travis Hunter. In fact, the offensive recruits are reportedly mostly brought in to help Shedeur Sanders reach the top. Could this possible bias be the reason why Colorado has been losing so many players since the portal opened on April 18?

Dylan Edwards joins 18 other Buffs’ players in the transfer portal, stripping Colorado of their roster and reputation. Other key players who left the program include Cormani McClain, Sy’Veon Wilkerson, and Savion Washington, among others. As Luginbill further views, all these players leaving the portal “could help them if the replenishments are better than what’s going out the door.”

As of now, four players entered Coach Prime’s program through the spring portal. These players include Ohio DL Rayyan Buell, Pittsburgh EDGE Dayon Hayes, Texas OL Payton Kirkland, and Ohio State RB Dallan Hayden. With the portal closing on April 30, there is still time for potential transfers to choose Colorado. Hopefully, the departing players won’t pose a problem in the Buffs’ roster for the 2024 season.
