In Colorado’s 2023 recruiting class under the first year with Deion Sanders as the HC, he raised hopes for the Buffs nation when he got a 5-star player to commit to his program. At the time, the No. 1 CB Cormani McClain already had several elite teams of interest including Florida, Alabama, and Miami. While he initially committed to the Hurricanes, the Lakeland High prospect shocked everyone with his decision to join Coach Prime and the CU Buffs.

When he joined Colorado, McClain expressed his desire to “get coached by the best DB.” While it was initially smooth-going, his experience in Boulder began to take an unexpected turn when things started to heat up when Coach Prime decided to keep McClain off of the field despite Travis Hunter’s injury. This is the reason Deion Sanders presented, “You would be a fool to put somebody out there and they’re unprepared. Can’t do it. Won’t do it, can’t do it.” And now, after one season, McClain is ready to leave Colorado behind.

Cormani McClain plans to enter the transfer portal

According to a breaking post by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on IG, “Colorado CB Cormani McClain plans to enter the Transfer Portal” with “4 years of eligibility remaining.” This decision induced the fury of fans after at least nine players dropped their decision to enter the transfer portal. A user commented, “Everybody leaving, seems like Coach Prime only concerned with Shedeur & everybody else job is to get his son to league… with that defense left, they not stopping no team. #WhatsReallyGoingInColorado.”

Cormani McClain will enter the 2024 season as a true freshman. In Boulder, he started only four games out of the nine games played. He recorded 13 total tackles (six solos), one TFL, and two pass breakups. While his decision left a void in the hearts of some Colorado fans, some foreseeing this scenario.

As the transfer news was announced, many IG users dropped their reactions with one saying, “Major [loss] for Colorado.” Colorado lost several key players including starting OL Savion Washington which has led to the Buffs’ requirement to replace all the five starting OL.

Another person also expressed their disappointment – “Come on bruh him and Travis could’ve been the best duo.” McClain is the third DB to hit the portal after Myles Slusher and Jaden Milliner-Jones.

One fan, however, stood in Coach Prime’s defense saying, “Not surprised. Him and Prime were butting heads. He couldn’t take the heat. These kids soft these days and want you to talk nice and be [their] friend. That shit don’t win you football games [son].

Another person cast his doubts on what’s going on in Colorado saying, “They must have poor development at that school. Bro about to ball out next year.”

While we can’t say whether McClain is making the right decision for his future, we hope he finds what he’s looking for wherever he lands next.
