As the NFL Draft approaches, teams are lining up with their plans to recruit future superstars from the current class. With the Chicago Bears enjoying the first pick, the quarterback position remains a place of interest. Some highly talented individuals present to be picked from the current class, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, and Caleb Williams are on their radar.

Williams has been regarded as the best of the lot, and the Bears have also been heavily linked to him. With the Bears also trading Justin Fields to the Steelers, the chances of them drafting Williams have increased. However, the most interesting point in the entire deal remains his father, Carl Williams, who is a successful businessman in negotiating his contract.

Caleb Williams, having declared for the draft, also made some pretty interesting decisions in the last few months. Williams decided he would not be represented by an agent while negotiating his future contract when drafted. However, a decision that might have influenced him to describe himself could have come from his father, Carl Williams, who plays a significant role in his son’s career.

While Carl currently has no connection with the NCAA, he knows how things go behind the camera, being an Oklahoma State University footballer himself. However, after not finding much success in the field, he became a businessman and found his calling. This entrepreneurial side of his personality has played an essential part in deciding his son’s off-field career, with many analysts worried that his presence could potentially hamper Caleb’s chances. In a recent YouTube video, Alber Breer discusses how his father is set to play an important role through his business mind in helping him secure the best deal possible. It also underlines their decision to not go with an agent and waste money on any outsider commission. According to what Breer said, “His dad is involved, but not on the football side.” further signifying a father’s dedication to wanting the best for his son.

Does Caleb Williams’ father want his Chicago move to become a reality?

As per NFL insiders, everything points towards the Bears drafting Williams at the number 1 spot in the 2024 Draft. Nonetheless, things have taken a controversial turn in the drafts. Whether it was Eli Manning and the San Diego Chargers in 2004, John Elway and the Colts in 1983, or even Kobe Bryant and the Hornets in 1996, players have often enjoyed the upper hand when it comes to deciding their futures.

Owing his childhood to Washington as his birthplace, his father has hinted that he would like it more if Caleb eventually played for the Commanders. While this situation is still possible with them enjoying the second pick, things can get interesting if the Bears do eventually draft him first. In an interview with Sam Schube, his father said, “The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league — because of their desire for parity — gets the first pick. So it’s the gift and the curse.

This is a clear depiction of his disbelief in the draft process. While acting as his son’s business manager, he would want to take things into his own hands. Caleb, on the other hand, has said, “If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited. If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited.” While his son maintains a diplomatic stance, his father’s massive involvement could possibly scare big teams away.
