Coach Prime is bursting with pride! The reason? It’s former Buffaloes star Derrick White, who won big, and the Buffs head coach can’t contain his excitement.

White transitioned from playing football for the Colorado Buffaloes to becoming a star guard in the NBA back in 2017. Soon, he joined the Boston Celtics and became a household name. In the recent spring NBA finals, his Celtics team pulled off a thrilling victory against the Dallas Mavericks, securing their 18th championship title.

Coach Prime and the Colorado fans were fully aware of the significance of this championship win. As news broke, podcaster Ryan Koenigsberg posted on X, “Congratulations to Colorado native, Forever Buff and longtime DNVR supporter Derrick White on becoming an NBA Champion. What an unbelievable journey to the top of the mountain!” Soon, Deion reposted the congratulatory message on X, hyping the former football player and Colorado native, Derrick White. He even reposted similar messages, clearly proud of White’s accomplishment.

However, Coach Prime’s son, Deion Sanders Jr., a self-proclaimed “proud Dallas native,” seems less than thrilled. The crushing loss probably stung, especially after Dallas’ Luka Dončić initially led the team with 28 points. Ultimately, Boston’s Jayson Tatum’s impressive 31 points sealed the win for the Celtics, with White contributing a solid 14 points himself.

Even Deion’s daughter, Shelomi Sanders, seems to share the disappointment. During the initial game of the spring NBA finals, she posted an Instagram story with a grumpy emoji, lamenting, “we gotta win it this year,” after Dallas’ narrow 105-98 loss. It looks like Coach Prime might be the only member of the Sanders family not too worried about the spring NBA finals outcome.

Coach Prime stays loyal to Colorado

Coach Prime had a legendary playing career, particularly during his “prime” years with the Dallas Cowboys. He even helped lead them to a Super Bowl appearance. Now, despite being a beloved Dallas star, Coach Prime seems to have found a new home with the Colorado Buffaloes. Thus, as the head coach in Colorado, Deion shows loyalty to Colorado-based teams and players. That explains his constant support for Derrick White, a former Buff who now shines in the NBA for the Boston Celtics.

Last Christmas, Coach Prime surprised White with a T-shirt featuring himself! White, clearly delighted, reacted with, “What a stuff!!! See you in the place to be. I appreciate it.” He even shared photos sporting the T-shirt on social media. Coach Prime even reciprocated the love, saying, “Love ya man. God bless u!!” This heartwarming exchange proves that the head coach has a special interest in this team’s former stars.
