As the story goes, he revealed he gave Deion Sanders the moniker ‘Prime Time’ because they would play around 7:30-8 p.m. which is a prime time for television. When Deion Sanders gave Richard Fain credit for his ‘Prime Time’ nickname

Back in 2019, Deion Sanders shared an image of Fain on his Twitter account (now X) and wrote how he got his nickname. The Colorado Buffaloes’ coach and Fain’s stories about the origin of the moniker surely matched.

Sanders had written, “This is RICHARD FAIN from Ft.Myers Fla. My best friend growing up. We went to @NorthFtMyersHS played 3 sports together & he is the 1 that NICKNAMED me PRIMETIME after i dropped 36 in a basketball game & had 2 dunks that night. On the way home on the bus he said man u PRIMETIME!”

Sanders had also shared the same story on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in 2022. That’s enough credit given to Fain, isn’t it? However, the nickname wasn’t simply given to Sanders. He had to earn it. Growing up in Florida and playing sports, one simply couldn’t take up names. They had to show they deserved it.
