Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team faced a tough challenge in a home game against the No. 5 UCLA Bruins resulting in a closely contested 76-68 defeat at the CU Events Center on Friday night. However,  the matchup drew a record crowd of 11,338 CU fans, marking the first-ever top 5 clash in CU women’s basketball history. This remarkable turnout resulted in the fifth sellout in program history, a feat not achieved in nearly 30 years, with the last sellout recorded in March 1995.

Taking to social media, Coach Payne acknowledged the massive turnout amid the setback, stating, “Disappointed we didn’t win this one, but DANNNNG, BUFF NATION really showed out! Proud of my squad. We COMPETE on 💯! CU SUNDAY!!” Deion Sanders joined in the appreciation, resharing Coach Payne’s post and expressing admiration with a heartfelt message, “We Love u Coach and You are the best in the business. #CoachPrime.”

Despite the defeat, the record-breaking attendance, and the team’s competitive spirit left an indelible mark on the historic night.
