Deion Sanders Expresses Fatherly Concern for Son Shedeur’s NFL Future: “Don’t Want That for Him”

The Colorado Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders, is not just concerned about the wins and losses of the program. Coach Prime is now also worried about his son, Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders’s next destination, and an interesting factor that plays an important role is the weather. Yes, championing a cause close to his heart, Deion Sanders will ensure that Shedeur finds the perfect NFL home — where the weather will be warm. 

Now that Colorado is already suffering due to the cold, the father is searching for a spot in a suitable climate. This opens up discussion about the probable destinations Shedeur may land himself in the upcoming season.

Deion Sanders’ climate preference, considering Shedeur’s background

In a recent interview with Chris Russo on SiriusXM Mad Dog, Deion Sanders emphasized that weather conditions will play a crucial role in determining the ideal destination for Shedeur. Per the sources,  Sanders claimed, “Like, I don’t want my kid going nowhere cold next year.”

He further elaborates on the reason behind his choice, stressing how Shedeur started his career with Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas, which exposed him to experience football in various climates. His next destination, Jackson State, known as a humid subtropical climate zone, has been pleasant for him. Hence, Deion Sanders stated, “He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.”

According to the coaching maestro, Shedeur’s performance could be impacted by playing in colder climates, and he particularly mentions Chicago, “Like see, when you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, okay, I could understand that. But from California to Chicago?” With this, Shedeur’s prospects of upcoming destinations come into play.  

Shedeur’s potential landing spot depends on weather play

Even though the Buffaloes did not have a satisfactory output last season, Shedeur refused to walk on the path. The quarterback recorded 3,230 passing yards for 27 touchdowns and three interceptions. Hence, per the projections by Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network, the 22-year-old quarterback will be the top-three pick of the 2025 Draft.

For the 2024 Draft, the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots owned the first three picks. However, it isn’t easy to envision a similar situation for the 2025 Draft. Less than half of the teams in the NFL are located in cold-weather cities. Among them, the possibility of drafting high next season goes to the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.

Considering Marca’s ranks, the two cities are home to two of the coldest stadiums in the league. Now it is to be seen whether Shedeur will consider Deion Sanders’ opinion in choosing a program switch to warm weather or the climate for the prospects and deals any of these programs will offer. With this, it seems to be an exciting time ahead for NFL fans.
