After months of backlash from the fans and the entire NFL community, Tom Brady has finally found a partner supporting his NFL safety ideology. The former QB for the Patriots recently received a tonne of criticism for saying that the current status of the game is too soft and in a recent interview, Coach Prime has imitated the exact same feelings.

During the 2023 season of the NCAA, the Colorado Buffaloes were faring poorly. Despite their low scope of success, Shedeur Sanders gave it his all to try and win the games for his team. So much so, he got sacked over 52 times last season and received all the more praise from Deion for being such a tough player. As such, it didn’t come as a surprise that he doesn’t like the fact that the NFL is making the game safer for its quarterbacks since he prefers a little bit of roughhousing.

Deion Sanders calls the NFL too overprotected

On the 9th May episode of the Nelk Boys, Deion came to the show to talk about football and his life experiences. During one such segment, the host asked him about his opinion on the NFL and its new set of rules, specifically, the hip-drop rule.

The NFL recently regulated the ban on the hip-drop tackle which has been known to cause several career-threatening injuries to players. Regarding this, Deion said, “It’s a great game man. We’re overprotective of certain parts of the game. Especially, the quarterbacks. He is a quarter of a billion-dollar product. You gotta protect. We understand that. But the game is just overprotected right now and it shouldn’t be. It should be football.”

Thus, Deion will be joining the likes of Brady in speaking against the overprotection of the QBs since they believe that the essence of the game is being tarnished. With all that said, here’s what Bill Belichick had to say about the safety rules, which goes against everything that Brady and Deion stand for.

Bill Belichick and his opinion on the new safety rules

With a lot of quarterbacks welcoming the new change themselves, there are a lot of fans who’d much rather it stay the same. As such, who better to give his opinion on the new change than the legendary Bill Belichick himself? Unfortunately, Belichick’s words will end up disappointing a lot of the people who love the goriness of the sport.

In one clip from the Pat McAfee show, Belichick was conversing with Roger Goodell and arrived on the topic of NFL safety. To which, Belichick said, “I think over the years, the NFL has done a great job of making the game safer for players. The targeting, the hip drop, there aren’t that many of them. There’s really no place for it and it’s just good to continue to keep the game safer for players.” The NFL is about to become a lot safer and though it’s a change, that will stir up a lot of drama within the community, the magic of the game will stay alive as long as the football soars up and high.
