A lot of controversy sparked when Alabama was chosen over the conference champion to appear in the playoffs. And now, FSU could be getting back a piece of what they deserved.

FSU fans woke up to the good news of their team getting granted a chance to clinch the national championship title. But there’s a catch. First, it will be a joint national championship title with Alabama. Second, certain criteria must be met.

FSU gets a chance to win the national championship title

An official update has been announced on Twitter and it has every FSU fan intrigued! The report reads, “It’s official – Florida State will be recognized as National CHAMPS if they beat Georgia.” As the NCAA delves deeper into the “10 different sets of rankings to crown a national champ in football,” FSU is at a high chance of finishing first in the Colley Matrix and “Thus will be recognized by the NCAA as a joint national champion.”

The Colley Matrix is a highly accurate computer-generated sports rating system used in the NCAA as a national champion selector in college football. As a top prospect on the Colley Matrix, Florida State has a chance to set things right and reclaim their deserving championship title. However several conditions apply to this resolution. 

Requirements for FSU to claim the national championship title

The Seminoles’ chance to win the national championship title will only happen if the following conditions are met:

  • FSU beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl on 31st December,
  • The Alabama Crimson Tides beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl on 2nd January,
  • The Texas Longhorns beat the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl on 2nd January,
  • Alabama defeats Texas in the final championship game on 8th January.

The next game on New Year’s Eve will set the course for Florida State in its dilemma over the national championship. Stakes are high on Nick Saban and 12-1 Alabama who were picked over Mike Norvell’s undefeated Seminoles. If FSU triumphs over Georgia, it’s up to them to win the Seminoles their first National Championship title since 2013.
