Retired two-time Super Bowl champion Danny Amendola is moving into coaching with the Raiders. Amendola, who played a crucial role in the Patriots’ Super Bowl victories in 49 and 51, has joined forces with Raiders coach Josh McDaniels. On his appearance on Games with Names, Gronkowski had taken a sharp jab at Amendola, suggesting that “he needs to become fat.” As a comeback, Amendola shared a picture of himself working out some weights at the gym, tagged Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, and captioned, “This one’s for you.” He added a heart emoticon at the end to keep up with the spirit of jest. Gronk was quick to furnish him with his take. He reshared the picture with a comment, “YOUR DOING IT WRONG DANNY!”

Danny Amendola was a free-agent American football wide receiver, who began his college football career at Texas Tech and entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2008. Throughout his career, he has played for various teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Houston Texans. Amendola boasts two Super Bowl championships from his time with the Patriots and has earned the nickname “Playoff Danny” for his clutch performances in the playoffs. With a career spanning 593 receptions, 6,082 yards, and 21 touchdowns, he has left a lasting impact on the field before transiting into a coaching position with the Raiders. The only issue with this is, as pointed out by his former teammates, “he’s way too good-looking to be a coach.”

Gronkowski and Edelman take a jab at Amendola
Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman on the Games with Names’ latest YouTube drop, discussed Danny Amendola and how his appearance might cause a distraction from his coaching endeavor. “Amendola, you’re not a coach you’re still way too ripped right now yeah he needs to stop yeah he needs to get fat,” opined Gronkowski. He feels that to fit into the image of a coach and demand respect and obedience, a coach should stereotypically be fat. But since Amendola is too ‘ripped’ to be a coach and someone witnessing a Raiders practice match might be confused, “wide receiver or is that a coach.”

After 13 seasons in the NFL as a receiver and returner, Danny Amendola is transitioning into coaching. His first four seasons were with the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2012, where he worked with McDaniels during McDaniels’ tenure as the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2011. Amendola and McDaniels later collaborated during Amendola’s five-year stint with the Patriots from 2013 to 2017, when McDaniels served as the offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick. Amendola now joins other former Patriots players, including quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer and receiver Jakobi Meyers, in joining the Raiders this offseason. While the ‘becoming fat’ saga rages on, NFL fans are served some excitement to look forward to as the regular season comes to a close.
