Deion Sanders is so sure of his son Shedeur Sanders being a round one NFL draft pick, that he even got into an argument with a fan over it. Many analysts also believe that Coach Prime’s son will be one of the top picks in the draft. However, NFL scout Daniel Kelly thinks Shedeur won’t even be drafted. This became the point of a fiery discussion on the Coach JB Show with Big Smitty.

While Sanders has areas he needs to improve in his game, putting him down as an undrafted free agent might be a stretch at this stage. Esepcially considering he is coming off an impressive first season in Colorado.

” F**k skill set,” Coach JB and Big Smitty debate over Shedeur’s draft stock

On the May 8 episode of the Coach JB Show with Big Smitty, the pair dissected a tweet that said, “As a former NFL Scout, Shedeur Sanders is currently ranked as a undraftable free agent on my 2025 NFL Draft board – based on a week-long study of every snap he took in 10 games from Colorado 2023 season (full game evidence included in this report)”. This snippet was taken out of FirstRoundMock’s Daniel Kelly’s report on Sanders, which carefully broke down his playing style and gave his reasoning behind ranking Sanders as undrafted.

This ensued a heated debate between the two hosts over Shedeur’s draft projection. Coach JB, who has been one of Deion’s biggest critics, said, I do agree with a lot of his assessments and I have not watched 10 games. I’ve watched him play live obviously on TV. I’ve seen clips and we’ve watched them throughout I don’t know if he’s undrafted because who his dad is. I believe he’s gonna get drafted.” But Smitty believed that Shedeur would get drafted regardless of who his father was.

Smitty replied, “Now if you want to say he’s not number one overall pick or he not first-rounder cool I’m cool. But to say that seven rounds of players can go through and he hasn’t done enough to be somewhere in the seven rounds of getting drafted it just don’t
make sense that’s all.”

Sanders’ odds to be the No. 1 pick stood at +100 at DraftKings Sportsbook on April 29. Moreover, CBS Sports NFL Mock Draft also had him in the top 10 first round picks. And there is good reason for that. Sanders threw for almost 300 yards per game and only had three interceptions in 430 attempts, completing 69% of his passes while his 27 touchdown passes ranked No. 12 nationally.

Smitty continued his defense of Shedeur and added, “I’ve seen enough from what he did and the other quarterbacks that are in college as well and the quarterbacks that I’ve seen get drafted every single year to say he can get drafted.” However, Coach JB remained unconvinced.

He said, “Just say that based on what the other quarterbacks look like you think he’s good enough, say that because don’t say he’s some guy that we’ve never seen please don’t.” There are some flaws in Shedeur’s game that will need improving. Sanders’ pressure to sack rate of 25.3% in his first season at Colorado puts him in the red flag territory of players like Justin Fields and Sam Howell.

I’m saying, to say he’s undraftable is idiotic. That’s stupid, it’s just stupid. Now you say he’s not first-round, to say he can’t be drafted is crazy. That don’t make sense. It literally don’t make sense,” was the reply from Smitty.

As the tension escalated, Smitty invoked Zach Wilson’s name to bolster his argument further, and JB countered with, “Zach was much better in college.” But Big Smitty added that the fans saw Trey Lance get drafted so Shedeur getting picked should be a no-brainer.

These comments prompted Coach JB to ask for a “time out” and even confirm if Big Smitty was really comparing the two players based on skill sets. Smitty responded with a simple, “I am comparing the tape…f*ck skillset.” He also compared Shedeur’s potential selection to his own recruitment, adding that he wasn’t the toughest guy and his numbers average in the Combine as compared to the other guys. All in all, his argument stood on what goes on in the field versus anything else.

“Was Trey Lance and Zach Wilson last year in college better than Shedeur Sanders?” inquired JB. He got a straightforward “Nope” from Smitty, marking the uncomfortable end to their argument. The unresolved tension lingered, leaving the episode to conclude with anticipation for the next installment and a lingering question mark over the debate.

That said, Shedeur is predicted to have a bright future in the NFL by none other than Deion himself, who also has the names of the team ready where he’d want his son, along with Travis Hunter, to land.

Deion Sanders has already picked out Shedeur’s teams next year

Coach Prime made waves in college football when he claimed that both his star players at Colorado would be on the top picks of the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, his confidence seemed to stretch to the skies when he further discussed the teams that he would want Shedeur and Travis to play for.

Deion said, “All this is subjective because I know where I kind of want them to go. Like, I don’t want my kid going nowhere cold next year. He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.

Recently, after his son took shots at former Colorado player Xavier Smith, a fan on X told Deion Sanders “Hey, tell your son stop acting like he’s the coldest out there“. The Buffs HC came back with a strong reply and wrote, “He will be a top 5 pick. Where yo son going ? Lololol I got time today. Lololol.”

Deion has a plan for Shedeur and Travis, the Colorado Buffaloes will have to outclass their last year’s performance to make any of their dreams of the NFL Draft come true.
